You get the Cavs tanked when he left, then made the Finals 4 years later? Heat lost him and finally acquired a significant FA 5 years later....and had to lose a quality player and 1st to get their guy who wanted to be there. And they still look like a 4-5 seed under ideal circumstances.

Cavs are 1 year into this rebuild.

All I saw was that Spurs have no money.

You get the Cavs tanked when he left, then made the Finals 4 years later? Heat lost him and finally acquired a significant FA 5 years later....and had to lose a quality player and 1st to get their guy who wanted to be there. And they still look like a 4-5 seed under ideal circumstances.

Cavs are 1 year into this rebuild.

Its ok to just say sucked vs tanked.
Gilbert guaranteed Cavs would win before James did.
That doesn’t sound like the words of someone who wants to lose.

But, yes, I know the story of what happened.

Hypothetical. If James didn’t go back, you think the Cavs would have even made the playoffs since he left?

Like with the USC kid--- he could be trash, or he could be a solid starter....before signing a player i think they need to figure out what they have.

He's got a ton of talent, but not much maturity. He has the talent to be better than just a solid starter (which still would be pretty good), but if he doesn't grow up...he could be out of the league pretty quickly.

I'd give Riley an 'A' grade for this offseason. If he goes through with this, I'm definitely not a big fan for the future. Keep that Wall contract away.

He was just in contact with him about joining the Spurs but my guess it would be on the MLE

Beal and Butler could be exciting but taking the worst contract in possibly sports that could be bad. Now, if Wall were to heal and get back to his old self it wouldn't be as terrible but that is very unlikely. He has to win a MVP for that contract to be decent lol

Sucked is what you would say to describe the tank. Though the last tank worked.

Gilbert made an emotional statement. Still doesn't take away the facts. Cavs lost Lebron and made the Finals 5 years later and the following 3 seasons. Heat lost him and in year 6 under ideal circumstances might be a 4-5 seed?

Basically, yeah. And I'm just not a fan of a PG that needs to be able to get to the rim and has an inconsistent jump shot - especially for the contract that he's on. And for a player that's consistently injured while also going to be 29 at the start of the season, I don't see his body miraculously getting better. For a guy at that price, that's about a third of the salary cap that's inconsistent and will miss portions of the year.

I think Beal and Butler could be an amazing combo. Wall would bring them down though with the reasons I just listed.

Only way you could get Beal is by also taking Wall.

Assets just aren’t there.

Hypothetical the Cavs would have probably been bad for a couple more years but who knows.

They would have kept Wiggins and probably got another top 5 the next year so probably either:

Towns
DLo
Okafor
Porzingis

Kyrie
Wiggins
Porzingis/Towns

That trio isn't bad so I would probably think the next year they were picking anywhere from 8-16 and possibly a playoff team the next year but who knows. I definitely think they would have made the playoffs eventually.
