C'MON NUGE!

Kudos to the Jackets on going all in this year. But if it doesn't pan out, woof, it's gonna hurt if those guys all leave for nothing.

I have to believe that Jarmo already has a deal ready to go to replace the pick next year and he is reasonably sure that Duchene will stay. This year's pick hopefully won't be that great.

Some rumors (mostly from Twatwaffle so...) that now Winnipeg is in on Bread and Roslovic and Comrie are part of it.

I actually think it's a halfway decent haul for Ottawa considering they had zero leverage.
I mean, I like it better for Ottawa than I do for Columbus but I'll wait until after the deadline since Columbus is basically pretty much here right now:

Man that's such a bucket of chicken trade.

NHL needs to step in, take it from Melnyk, burn it down and move it to that pretty arena in Kbec.

Don't know a damn thing about Nick Jensen, but didn't see much in Bowey.

I saw Bowey in junior and thought hed be a player but it i heard talk his development has stagnated :noidea: still a prospect but heading towards suspect. Jensen is a late bloomer. Its an upgrade for the caps for right now as hes a rental

*If edler had a cap hit of $0.8M, yeah he'd be a hot commodity.

:wtf:
Edlers cap hit remaining is 1.1 mill and as per cap friendly 27 nhl teams have the space to take that remaining cap hit

Yeah, Bowey makes some awful turnovers and decisions with the puck. The kind of stuff Orlov did early in his career with us, except without any of the upside that Orlov had. I can't see Bowey ever being a top 4 defender on an NHL squad. Well, at least a good NHL squad. So basically a second rounder, seems like a really good rental. Someone at the Caps organization is studying their advanced metrics....

Bottom 5 Relative Corsi for % at ES - Capitals
Madison Bowey -2.8% > Traded
Brooks Orpik -3.0% > Will be healthy scratch most nights if team is healthy
Devante Smith-Pelly -3.8% > Waived
Matt Niskanen -4.3% > Could be demoted to 3rd line defense
Chandler Stephenson -4.5% > Could be replaced by Hagelin or Burakovsky (depending on which plays the 3rd or 4th line)

Meanwhile, Hagelin and Jensen are 3rd and 8th on their squads (both with positive relative Corsi numbers) in the same statistic. And both contribute as PK guys, which has been a weak spot for the Caps this season.

Really fantastic work by McClellan and company. These guys will really help as much with who they get off the ice as what they bring to the team on it. The Jensen move could be as impactful as the Kempny move last season (Chicago botched that one).

Jensen's cap hit for the SEASON is $800,000. Even still Edler would be sought after if it wasn't known that he's about to re-sign in Vancouver.

Can't really compare a player with such different salaries. Washington, by coincidence, has NO ROOM. And they paid a hefty price for a borderline top 4 on a bad team.

When the next CBA gets ratified after the next lockout, there better be a provision that allows teams to trade cap space and cash money. And one that makes all GM's meet at a posh Caribbean resort for the two days leading up to trade deadline day - and they are not allowed to leave the premises. And there is a film crew there to stream the whole thing. And lots of booze. How does temptation island sound?

Caps probably “overpaid” (if u can even call this that - i wont) because yes they are one of the 4 teams that had to pick up d on the cheap and jensen was the best (only?) option. But 27 other teams have cap room for edler .. if he waived the no trade

Hefty? Bowey is a nothingburger. And after the first round, I'm not sure a second rounder vs. a fourth rounder is any more likely to become a NHL all-star some day. I don't know, I think they got about what he was worth.

I agree but I don't see many other teams giving up a 2nd plus a young player for Nick Jensen.

I think it's a good move for the Caps but I think they had to overpay (relative to market) because there was no one of Jensen's caliber available with such a low cap hit.
