Out of the beat picture noms I've seen, Black Panther and A Star is Born are overrated as hell, BlacKkKlansmen was awesome, Bohemian was alright, and Green Book will likely win because the movie is the definition of Oscar bait.

I have only seen Panther and Klansman.

Panther was good. I enjoyed it. But it was a cookie-cutter MCU flick. Why is it getting singled out as the greatest thing since sliced bread?

That was a rhetorical question. We all know why it is getting singled out.

I have a basic problem with Klansman as well, but I am basically OK with it, because that is what it is. It was a good movie, and I enjoyed it.

Between the two that I have seen, Klansman clearly deserves the Best Pic nod. Although, it doesnt have a “Best Pic feel” to it.

Incidentally, Black Panther is the first superhero film in history to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar / Academy Award. (2014-2015 Best Picture winner Birdman was not actually a superhero film, though its title makes it sound like one.)

BP is good. But I don’t think it ranks in the top 5 of superhero movies...

(In no particular order)...
Dark Knight
Batman Begins
Infinity War
Civil War
Winter Soldier
Iron Man

I stopped after that. All those movies were better than BP.

You know what, we can do better than that.

The Academy likes to announce the Best Picture winner shortly after midnight Eastern Standard Time. So I timed the poll to close at 11:59 PM EST that night so everyone can keep voting up until right before the Best Picture winner is announced. :)

But on the subject of superhero films getting nominated, considering the nomination of Black Panther, Avengers 3: Infinity War was badly snubbed.

Black Panther
is a good film, but Infinity War is much better, and if Black Panther is good enough to get a nomination, then Infinity War definitely should have gotten one too.

The only one I've seen so far that's been nominated for anything was "Can You Ever Forgive Me?". I liked it a lot and Melissa McCarthy and Richard Grant are both worthy nominees, who don't stand a shot from what I've read. That's all I've got.

I didn't see the Green Book as Oscar bait, fairly cookie cutter. I imagine The Favourite wins. Have a monarch, british accents, wear old timey clothes, but it's not stuffy like past period pieces.

The biggest knock I think you can give Infinity War is that it’s half a movie and so while it’s still definitely better than Black Panther I don’t think either deserve to be nominated.

This honestly looks like a shit list. One of the worst I have seen in a while. Award shows are just another platform for people to tout their politics anymore.

Shits whack.

Have me down as "Roma" winning it all.

The Favourite only has a 62% audience RT score. Bohemian Rhapsody has a 62% critic score. Both are fringe contenders at best. Vice has a bad critic score and a bad audience score so its only on there for political reasons as far as I can tell.

I think that leaves Roma and A Star is Born as the main contenders.

Which film do you think deserves to win, though? Not the one you think will win, but the one you think deserves to win and which you would vote for if you were a voter?

I think BlacKkKlansman has a pretty good shot.

Roma is what I would go with, but not sure if they'd really give it to a netflix release. Plus, it has a built in fall back award for best foreign film. I can't imagine A Star is Born being close to a legitimate contender.
