Picking at the top of draft doesn't do much unless you're getting a LBJ .

I've seen teams pick top 10 year after year and still be a trash team.

Very few players drafted in the top 5 actually lives up to the hype.

The best player from the 2017 draft is currently a guy drafted 13
oh, no doubt--- but its without a doubt a 100% fact that the higher you pick, the more likely that you are drafting a better player- and that players taken inside of the top 5 are much more likely to go on to be all stars then players taken lower down in the draft.

I mean- there are PLENTY of exceptions to the general rule- but they are exceptions for a reason.

Dwade was not available in the late lotto. He was there at what? #5?

Better chance yeah but far from a lock
i dont think anyone is saying a lock

i think i did an analysis on this site a few years ago that found about 40% of players taken in side the top 5 go on to be all stars.

while 40% is not even half---- it is WAY more than the odds once you get out of the top 5.

I mean- Wade- your boy- 5th pick in the draft.

Fox- 5th pick in the draft.

last yaer ? Trae Young? 5th player in the draft

And even better odds when you get to end or outside of lottery.

The top 5 in this draft could very well be:

1. Zion
2. Morant
3. Barrett
4. Hachimura
5. ???

Those top 4 look pretty damn good.

I forgot ATL had two picks. They might end up have back to back picks 5-6. Pretty nice. Kinda crazy the Hawks are the 5th worst team and the Mavs are the 6th. All the Hawks have to do is not let the Mavs pass them, which they shouldn't, and they will have that #6 pick

Trae and #6 not looking as bad for Doncic. I'd still take Luka though.

you will never win dick the way they heat are building their team with no stars.

NBA was, is, and always will be a star driven league.

The Heat have ONLY had success when they had stars like Mourning, WAde, LeBron, Shaq.

that is not changing. Are there exceptions? Sure- but they only reinforce the RULE-

the rule being? STARS WIN IN THE NBA. IF YOU DONT HAVE A STAR OR TWO YOU DONT HAVE SHIT.

You act like what happened is what Riley wanted.
You know how wrong that is?

Congrats!

Seriously. Here's a recap:

Cavs fans: You guys (the Heat) are mired in mediocrity and are in the worst position in the league. The Cavs are growing and have tons of cap space and draft picks because we're tanking

.....

Cavs fans: Uh, guys. We're 8-8 since Love has come back. We're awesome.

Woo!!!!!!!! 8-8, that's not mediocre at all.

We had a star in Bosh. Was he going to win a title as the main guy, most likely not, actually he wasn't.

But Bosh getting blood clots fucked up the entire process.

Yet you want to do things like Miami and maybe get a midround pick as opposed to near the top of the draft?

Wrong assumption.
I’d rather have the true stars, but Id rather make the playoffs then have a 20 win team.

Cavs have selected Tristan Thompson, Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters, Anthony Bennett, and Andrew Wiggins with top 5 picks. One has ended being the biggest bust in NBA history, and 3 of the 4 haven't lived up to their respective rankings. Kyrie Irving is the only guy who actually lived up to his draft ranking.

And was dead cap money.

I remember the debates with Wiggy. The 1 year without Wade was where we were operating at a $25 million handicap because Bosh had to be medically retired and we had that money still on the cap. But @dtgold88 wants to use that as a feeble-minded way of trying to sway his side of the argument.

See you're looking @ this all wrong. Yes the Cavs are 8-8 in their last 16. But if you look @ their previous 56 games they were only 11-45. They're on fire right now.

That was only said I would imagine to show having Love makes a difference. Glad he didn't play much this year as I wouldn't want to be in no man's land with the Heat.

And what did the Heat do in order to draft Wade? Then what did they do to bring in Lebron and Bosh?

The bust and Wiggins were traded for love.
