Wasn't the thing before "at least we get to see our team in the playoffs..."

Or was that Wiggitywack...?

If the teams were reversed, Wiggy would be shitting himself seeing the Heat at the bottom of the league. Lord knows he did it a lot when the Lakers were missing the playoffs post-Kobe era.

what? when he offered these contracts to guys he wanted them to not sign them? I have no clue what yo uare saying. What he wanted his guys he signed to play better? lol...i mean wtf.

My belief is that he thought they wouid continue to improve, like many others have before.
Then he could use them in trades.

Yes, please enlighten.

Don't forget the Cavs can be ripped for drafting waiters as a bust....but Riley then signed this bust for gobs of money.

Go back at look at FA money that summer.
Waiters was on the low end.

lol...still never answered my question that you conveinently avoid-

what is better

-being the 8th seed, with no cap room and little draft assets and getting your ass whooped in the first round?

or

-being one of the worst teams in the league, taking on bad contracts for extra draft assets , getting 2 extra 1st rounders, and 6 extra second rounders and getting a premium lotto pick?

still waiting on the answer.

Honestly it depends on your front office. How much shit have you given the Lakers for their missed draft picks, then what good is having all those picks?

There's no clear cut formula to winning. The answer is always dependent on the organizational structure, scouting and player development. Always.

oh yah-- the Lakers arent the only ones that missed on a ton of early picks- Cavs missed on plenty too- hte Sixers missed on at least 3 BADLY in Okafor, Fultz and Noel.

but ya gotta at least try or you just end up being the 8th seed and getting smoked in the first round year after year

Sixers hit on some too- and now are set to have more than a half decade of really fun competitive high level basketball.

If the Lakers would have just batted 50% theyd be in the same boat as the Sixers too.

and I mean- Miami COULD find a star at #15 in the draft or whatever- its not impossible- its just highly fuckin unlikel- i mean, in the years they actually own their own pick...still paying for trading for Goran Dragic.

Again depends on player development. The Warriors were a perennial 6th seed until Kerr took over as head coach and revamped the entire offense and defensive schemes. There's really not much difference in the team from 2014 and the team from 2015.

Not saying that all teams can do what the Warriors did. Obviously there is superstar talent that helped, but I don't see why a team like say New Orleans couldn't have done something similar. They were a fringe playoff team with a top 5 NBA player. But their organization was so shit in putting pieces around him that fit, that it caused the rift.

Look at the Bucks too. Giannis took the leap, but in addition to that the organization hit on a second round draft pick in Brogdon and was able to make the trade for Eric Bledsoe. Two big pieces to their success. Then they added a quality free agent in Brook Lopez and all of a sudden they're in the mix.

id rather have the worst record in the league then get the 9th spot in the East- its that simple. If you cant understand that I dont know what to tell ya.

I cannot think of something worse than finishing 9th in the East on a capped out team with some of hte least draft assets in the league.
You mean something like wading at the bottom of the barrel and then drafting Bennett? LOL

well yah no shit - he was wrong.

how many gms signed guys thinking they would be better then they ended up being?

You act like there were a ton of better other options.
Are you once again forgetting that the Heat was forced to end up having to give up all the assets because both James and Bosh ended up wanting sign and trades?

As far as ‘wrong’ any franchise that can’t crack the top 8 in the EC for nearly 2 decades ( unless they have LeBron) should be listed in the definition of any dictionary.

Too accomplish that, the list of wrongs has to be quite lengthy.

And thinking more abo9ut this Bosh only enhances OUR point. You need studs to win, and usually need high picks to find studs in the draft or to clear cap space to get those studs in FA.
Well, not really.

Steph Curry - drafted first round #7
Klay Thompson -drafted first round #11
Kobe Bryant -drafted first round #13
Draymond Green - drafted SECOND ROUND # 35

you will never win dick the way they heat are building their team with no stars.

NBA was, is, and always will be a star driven league.

The Heat have ONLY had success when they had stars like Mourning, WAde, LeBron, Shaq.

that is not changing. Are there exceptions? Sure- but they only reinforce the RULE-

the rule being? STARS WIN IN THE NBA. IF YOU DONT HAVE A STAR OR TWO YOU DONT HAVE SHIT.
Well a Cavs fan would know - given this season and all.

Better chance top 5 than not though. Had some success with wade, Bosh and Lebron if you recall.
Not in the Cavs' case...but who's keeping count? lol

Because they build a roster talented enough that he'd want to play with them.
Lol really? So LBJ specifically recruiting Love was part of Gilbert's "rebuild" process? lol

We're not even going to mention they trick Kyrie into an extension after his rookie deal to then turn around & sign LBJ later that same summer.

Then some people have nerve to be surprised when Kyrie announces he no longer wants to play with LBJ & demands a trade.

I mean, this is all obvious stuff.

My point is- that you need stars to win, and the most likely place you find stars is at the top of the draft.

you ca absolutely lose with a star on your team- but you cant win without them.

you can find stars in the 2nd round- you can find post-hype guys like Oladipo, that happens- it just doesnt happen that often.
