To much money at his age for five years. Could easily end up with another bad contract like Choo. IMO it is time to re-evaluate and start putting this team into perspective. Yu alone will not help this team before they get things worked out and before he starts a decline.
More Yu news of course

That doesn't even deserve an answer but here goesso don't do anything until we get better
I think at the price mentioned above Yu would be a tremendous bargain. If he signs for anything close to that with another team it is going to make our ownership look very cheap. That doesn't even deserve an answer but here goes
1. solve Choo's contract
2. improve CF
3. improve LF
4. improve 2B
5. improve pitching in minor league
6. improve BA/OBP
7. improve base running
These things make a better team more that one pitcher unless he is a real bargain.
I don't mind signing Yu if it's a bargain. My point is he is getting older and with elbow history he could be a contract/ health problem if we overpay. We have so much more to do that any blip will not net much.I think at the price mentioned above Yu would be a tremendous bargain. Remembering what he turned down with NY does not indicate cheap for anyone. But overall.....this price isn't an overpay at all......This may be one of those situations where "you're paying to compete, and/or put butts in the seats" all the while knowing you're probably not in WS contention.

Of course the question is if Yu can be serviceable for years 3-5 which is likely window. At 18 million per year or even less then I am all for pulling that trigger. To me it is about value We could flip him easy. Issue now is the luxury tax is driving down prices. Get a bargain while you can.
Never trust a Yankee! Yu disputed that the figures advertised were correct.
(Although I married a Yankee albeit from Minnesota)

right now it is more to put butts in the seats during 2018 and 2019 seasons. Hamels, Fister, Perez, Moore and Minor aren't going to do that. competing in 2018 may entail just staying out of the West basement because even if we sign Yu, we wouldn't even be close to competing with Houston, Los Angeles and Seattle with our pitching, defense or offenseBut overall.....this price isn't an overpay at all......This may be one of those situations where "you're paying to compete, and/or put butts in the seats" all the while knowing you're probably not in WS contention.
It seems to me it is saying we would be his 5th choice according to how those polled thought.Bleacher Report ran a poll of where Yu would end up with the teams being the Twins, Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, Rangers or another team.
Cubs got 26.8%
Yankees got 19.13%
Twins got 17.49%
Some other team got 15.5%
Rangers got 13.16%
Dodgers got 8.41%
so in other words out of 30 teams the fans think that the Rangers would be the 29th choice for Yu only beating the Dodgers
