If they don't believe they can afford Yu then it is the same as one or the other. They have a very big chunk of a limited budget going to a player who will be here one more year in Hamels. That is the biggest reason they will not pay market value for Darvish. The 2018 budget will not allow both players to be here in 2018.

then they will be just going thru the motions in 2018 with no discernible plan for the future. a team with a plan is always adding to lead to that future, a team without a plan thinks that they don't have to do anything until certain things happen and then when they don't happen they just move the finish date to even further in the future

It's being reported - heard this on PTI this afternoon - the Yankees offered Darvish $160 mil over 6/7 years but gave him 48 hours to accept it, and they didn't hear diddly-squat.......Good for Yu!

doesn't mean he doesn't end up a Yankee. if he is expecting the Rangers to make an offer he has a long way

might as well give up and just spend the spring and summer in Aruba

We were not in position to win the division whether they got Cole or not so the Stros gave up big money and five players. We still need more pitching to start rebuilding. 2018 is out.

Yeah just seeing the Cole to Htown not really giving up as much as I thought. The kept their potential Ace Milb pitcher and have Cole for 2 years. Felix is a pretty hard thrower and Musgrove pretty good too. Both would make our 25. Moran is a major leaguer. Definitely improves Houston. Thought pirates could have got more

Darvish is the only one with no draft pick attached methinks. Of course DFW media says no way for any of these.

Yanks got luxury tax issues. Houston not buying again. Twins just spent. Cubs and maybe LAD still looking.

Teams are waiting to spend next year. I think Rangers should consider Darvish

Houston probably out of it for Darvish now.

At least we don’t have to see him pitch against us 10 times a year.

Would be nice if JD could do something to generate excitement, but I’m thinking he might be choosing to build the farm and pay bills this year, then re-assess next offseason.

We're going to be irrelevant for a while. I'm guessing about 3 years. Hopefully the worm turns by 2021 with or without JD. Oh well. We had a nice run for last 5-7 years. Minus a couple.

This next era will be a redux of 70s and 80s Ranger baseball. Won't be the worst team, just their neighbor down the street.

The new ballpark should help us ( finally) be able to get good free agent pitchers to willingly come here.

Cliff Lee, Darvish, and Hamels were all acquired by trade or bidding.
