Cole, now McCutcheon, maybe others. Pittsburgh giving up on 2018 season just before it is about to begin. Rangers in a few months?

Pitt is able to do so openly, they didn't just ask for a new a stadium. Texas needs to do what they are doing and sell anything they can, but won't because of the PR. They got smoked just for considering fake grass. a fire sale would would cause a coup.

so you believe the Rangers should just clean house and not even try. that is not going to put butts in the seats and that doesn't sound like good PR

Yes. What do we have doing for us? Bad contracts, veterans, and maybe one or two solid young pieces. Our farm is in shambles after years of buying at the deadline and we are a middle of the pack team as stands.

We either have to nail the next two drafts and hope eveyrone we have develops into legit major league contributors or we have to keep overpaying to get the top FA pieces we need. OR, we need to sell what we have to restock the farm system and have a shitty next 2 years or so while we build a good young team and shed payroll. Then we go into the new park with hopefully a couple of legit future stars, money to buy the a couple of top FA's and we try to contend.

I'm not a fan of the "try to win while reloading" garbage. With parity rules in major sports that's a recipe where you stay middle of the pack until you either stumble on a draft stud or overpay FA's.

I'm overall 100% with ya. This acting like and deceiving ourselves into "we'll contend for a post season situation every year" is nothing but poppycock. In the modern era of baseball most team runs are semi short in duration. Just the way the game is today.

This team, and I'm looking at the 40 man roster, is totally discombobulated. We're too old at certain positions, too inept at others, over extended at others, and just flat out, out-manned at others (insert starting pitching here).

The wisest decision is to take a step back, regroup/restock, and look at 2019 and beyond IMO.

It's time. Hamels, Choo, Elvis...Take the prospect you can get for them, and go after young talents in FA and build through the draft

Once again, hyperbole seems to be a strong suit with you.

Choo's is the only really bad contract of the bunch and that is mainly due to the duration of it.

You might have to eat a $3-4 million with Hamels.

More reality.

Reality stinks right now for this team. Maybe present ownership can sell the team now that a new stadium is on the way. Then maybe we can get owners who aren't gun shy due to the Choo and Fielder contracts.

Not talking all at once. Unload Hamels, Belted, Choo & Andrus now. And then as the trade deadline approaches unload a few more of them like Odor, Kela, Bush and Diekman and then the rest during the next off season. This gives us a bunch of prospects and we can put 6 or 7 of our better prospects on the MLB roster and give them the chance to excel

Expect that unloading Choo will require us eating at least 50% or more of his contract. Same maybe true of Hamels. He has downgraded with his stuff and is owed in access of 20M so I would expect us to have to eat at least 25 to 35% of his last year salary and get minimal in return.

Reality trumps perception.

Not surprising. The ownership never had it in them to go the distance so we need to clean house, look at our prospects and accept that with the exception of a top ballpark we are a small market team that will play in the bottom 3rd of the AL for the next 4 or 5 years at the minimum
