In a general sense,

What’s your expectations for this offseason from the Rangers brain trust?

I’m just expecting to see some holes filled, get rid of some dead weight, and hopefully we see a stronger team than last year who could compete for a wild card spot.

Not even going to talk about the division because of recent events.

Texas and its media base is a much more patient landing spot for Ohtani. Even with the Yu hate from a few media This could be a factor. Yanks are in a better spot to make noise in playoffs. Another factor.

I do think if we land Yu and Ohtani and our bullpen does well, we can compete. Astros and Cleveland look better on paper but 2018 will still be played in between the lines.
In a couple of years who knows how we will compare to the Yankees. Look at where they were just a year or two ago.

More fodder
He lost me when he said he wanted us to sign enough starting pitchers to give us 7 starting pitchers. Then he has 28 guys on our Opening Day 25-man roster.

I think we go after Otani and Darvish and Mikolas. I would like to see us pick up another starter for the 5th spot and trade Hamels, but I don't think that is happening. If we did that I think we could also afford a closer and allow all of the other bullpen guys to drop down a spot and that might make a great pen. The starting pitching would take a hit, but the pen gets better and the prospects we get for Hamels can help us out when we are ready to contend for a WS.

I hope they are looking to trade Choo.

I expect them to trade Profar and I expect Profar to be considered a better player than Odor by the second half of the 2018 season when he is playing everyday somewhere else, maybe even earlier than that.

I think there is a good chance we trade Choo. The thought is Calhoun is a cheaper version although I think he is not up until more AAA seasoning. Love to get maybe a pitcher like Kennedy for Choo. Bad contract for bad contract.

thinking about trading Choo and actually finding someone to taking him are 2 different things unless we take back another bad contract or throw in at least 30M with him

Well yeah they are 2 different things but methinks a trade will be pursued and the terms could vary widely depending who you get, their contract status and yes eating 10 million a year for 3 years is quite possible and maybe the best scenario. Choo is not s bad player just overpaid albeit not that great defensively. If we do not find a trade partner then word is he will play some 1B. I doubt he gets much time again in RF again.

Response was to Saddles below

I hope they are looking to trade Choo.

No thanks to Kennedy. He is bad and getting worse. We would only save about $7 million per year and we would be saddled with a starting pitcher who is going to be worse than Nick Martinez very quickly. Just pay half of Choo's salary and take a prospect for him.

I am not sure we would get that though unless a throw in prospect. How much is Choo real worth in marketplace this year and for the next 2. The sabre guys would calculate WAR to come up with a salary. Anything above this we would have to eat and we get a a player comparable

Off the top of my head with no research he can not be worth no more than 10 million so the additional 10 million you have to eat pending trading for a bad contract. So if we eat the 10 million and get a good prospect thenit becomes a good trade.

I am sure the number crunchers could be more accurate than me. If pressed I guess I could do the calculations as a novice

Point is with Choo if we get a trade partner with another team with a bad contract and flip based on need then they may be a route. We have other players ready to tasked his spot who are about as good or need to develop

even if we eat half his salary who is going to want him. defensively he is a liability and a team isn't going to pay him 10+M a year to be a bench player. and who wants an even worse player and his contract here

we might get a bag of batting practice balls but any prospect is not going to be worth a damn

I don't see any deal working out well for us concerning Choo. Bad contract. End of story.

I would rather have lineup fodder for Hickory than take Ian Kenedy for him.

I’d take a few chicken sandwich wrappers for Choo at this point.

This is crap. He is still a very valuable offensive player. One of our best, especially last season.

Is he making too much money? Absolutely. But all he did was accept the offer he was given, and you'd done the same thing.

So take this "few chicken sandwiches nonsense" out for a permanent stroll.
