I think you are right. I am just saying what I think should be done. I have no illusions that they will actually do that. At some point someone is going to have to replace Odor when they finally give up on him and that replacement might be Elvis.
with everything being posted about the strained relationship between the Rangers and Profar, i think it would be best for both if the Rangers find a trade partner that will give him a fresh start. package him with others to get either a mlb piece to help the rotation or bullpen now or other prospects(pitching preferred)

The team is constantly looking for ways to increase revenue beyond making the team better. That is the whole reason we are getting a better stadium. That is why they seek each year to improve the fans experience at games like when they improve scoreboards and such. That is why they market the team and the team's merchandise. That is why they have a marketing department. That is why they sell naming rights to a very dull sounding company and have to call the place Globe Life Park. If they don't need anything but a competitive team then they should still be playing in Arlington Stadium. There are a lot more things involved in attracting revenue besides having a really good team. Having a competitive team is the foundation and largest part by far, but the other revenue generators are important to an organization as well.

Another thing to keep in mind is that going from being a competitive team to a perennial WS contender increases revenue as well. Any piece that helps the club to eventually get to that point is extremely important to revenue.
i agree but when we move into the new park in 2020 we will still need to give fans more than a new stadium to get them into the seats. we need to spend the next couple of years adding quality pieces to the team. among the 12 pitching prospects we have in the minors we have 2 projected right now as a top of the rotation pitcher and that is Matuella who is still at A level and Ragans who is at A Short. probably 3 to 5 year away. of the other 10 most are thought to mid to lower rotation or bullpen level. i can't get excited about any of them except Matuella and Ragans.

well this will be his make-or-break offseason.

Or owners may just extend him. His lieutenants have been coveted. Keeps his hand close to his chest. Weakness has been developing pitching. I will grant that.

keep working on developing pitching but until then do what is necessary to bring in quality starters and relievers thru free agency or trade

My post that you responded to was about how spending for Stanton might not be quite as costly as it might seem on first glance. When you say we need to spend money on pitching to me you are preaching to the choir. I have said all along we need to pursue Darvish and Otani and possibly Mikolas as well. I also would like to acquire a closer. Probably the only place we might differ in building a staff is in me being open to trading away Hamels if it means we can afford everything else.

They have ran his trade value into the ground.

Concerning the strained relationship, I think they should heed the advice from Jerry Jones. "Never let your money get mad." In other words don't make business decisions as a result of passion. Jerry did that once and wound up letting a very talented receiver get away and go to Jacksonville.

That is likely why he won't consider retooling/rebuilding the team.

It may be moot speculation if he is extended. But he has to rebuild pitching irregardless. Don't see him trading off pieces for a total rebuild although hitters for pitching is a strong possibility

just think it would be best for both sides for him to go somewhere else there is just no fit for him with Texas and he is out of options

Possible trade options Rua, DDJ, Calhoun, Profar, Odor, Choo, Maybe even Guzman. We are looking for depth not necessarily Ready SP or pen. But with Calhoun/ Odor perhaps you get a ready made piece.

Way too many strikeouts but we are losing Napoli and hope Odor rebounds.

Wonder if somehow we could land Gomez on a 2 year contract with option. He definitely likes it here.

Choo's biggest rub to most is his contract. That and he sucks in RF.

But from an offensive standpoint he works the pitcher well, hits with some pop, and hits for a decent avg. That's considerably better than half our lineup. So if he leaves, it's a pretty big bat to lose. Moreso than I think many think.

I hope JD/We/I have learned our lesson on issuing such contracts. Elvis at least is still producing but other than him we have gotten stung rather costly.

Calhoun would have to be included plus minor league CF talent and maybe Profar and DDJ. I am not always the greatest gauge but it seems like he's very low cost controllable. A high commodity.

Should prove interesting to see how things go. Usually have to give up something we consider valuable to get the same.
