I just want them to be moving in the right direction. They need to make use of whatever veteran assets they have to help prepare for 2020 and beyond. Part of that includes finding out about some young guys. They obviously believe they can't win it all this year or their commitment to salary for 2018 wouldn't be so far under last year's budget. I just want to see them take the other logical steps that go along with that realizarion. That would mean trading veterans by this year's deadline. Had they done that this offseason it certainly wouldn't have been premature considering their budget for this year. If they continue to delay this process beyond this coming trade deadline then I would be very concerned.

I have to think they tried to move Cashner, Choo etc and balance that with keeping Beltre happy who is a big mentor to the guys we look to be our future. Same for Hamels. No guarantee either will be traded. Do think some pretty good pitching close to horizon

Just because we want to make trades does not mean it happens. We don't want to be marked as a soft trader too

By the same token, just because a trade wasn't made doesn't mean one was pursued. It also doesn't mean they weren't approached and turned it down. Most likely, I don't think they have tried pursuing anything. I think we would have heard had Beltre or Hamels been available.

May be. But I think they tried to move Choo. (Which is confirmed). I think they tried to move Cashner too. Re Hamels, I think they are hoping his value increases. Beltre-hard to say but probably you are right

We rarely hear about stuff until it happens. Choo was the exception. Still on the positive note, I am upbeat about our pitching, like getting JPM and am hopeful re our young player development. A lot of current pitching has one year options so yes competing this year is something the team is definitely all in on but that is ok. A lot of time and will see where we are at midseason. I think JD will pull the trigger. He did on YU and still brought Calhoun up.

Trying to work the business side and future while keeping owners happy. Balancing act

The whole BB world wanted Walker Buehler but you think that was possible. Heard not many went after Yu. Houston wanted no part of him

Buehler was probably untouchable, but they should’ve done a better job at trying to get verducci at least.

Norm seems to think Diekman has had the best spring of any of our BP guys.

Most volatile teams of 2018
Texas, like Baltimore, is coming off a disappointing season, having lost 84 games, and despite a string of moves aimed at reinforcing the pitching staff -- adding Mike Minor, Chris Martin, Doug Fister, Matt Moore, Jesse Chavez and Lincecum -- its current projection is all of 78-84. The pitchers are still projected to allow the fourth-most runs per game, at 5.10.

This one isn't hard to explain. All of the names mentioned above, as well as returning Rangers like Cole Hamels, Rougned Odor, Nomar Mazara and Shin-Soo Choo, have had past success. The problem is that very few of them had good seasons in 2017, which is how you lose 84 games in the first place. We know Adrian Beltre is a stud, yet he's also 39 years old next month. If everyone plays to their potential, and Willie Calhoun mashes like he's capable of, this team could be in the American League Wild Card Game. If even a little goes wrong, 90 losses are just as possible.

Fister not Foster

It definitely looks like a band of misfits at starting pitcher, but we have seen Moore, colon, fister, Hamels, and Perez have good seasons before. If the bullpen isn’t a total dumpster fire, we might have a decent season.

Last year is over and gone. At this point they are not misfits until they are. Think positive. Remember when Elvis did not hit with power? Me too but now he does.

I was trying to be positive there.
