I usually check out hoopshype for free agent info. They have Johnson listed 19th of those remaining.

NBA Free Agency 2017: The top players

He could arguably be even higher on that list.

Forget remaining.
There is no chance in hell that he should be 47 on that list based on what he transitioned into last season.
Before last season, yes.
Now. No way.
Dion is 12 on the list.
I'd rather keep Johnson.

And they have no cap space after they sign Porter?
Seems like they will just be spinning their wheels then, right?
I thought they were the biggest threat to the Cavs in the EC last year, but not any more.

Oh yeah.

They are totally spinning their wheels. But, that is what this franchise has always done. They have not had the patience to endure a real rebuild since their last championship caliber team in the late 70s. They build for a 45-50 win roster with little upside from there.

Now, this group did actually have a path to be a legitimate contender, but that went away when KD said he wasn't coming to D.C.

Wizards would be as good as any team in the league with KD. Without him, this is probably about their max. Expect no more than 55 wins and a likely 2nd round exit.

I like Crowder a lot.

But, the Wizards need a guy who is more heavy on the 3 than the D in that spot. That is why Porter fits better.

Now, if they could get Crowder and keep Porter, I would be all for that.
I agree, though "afterthought" for a 14 pt scorer at almost 40% from 3 seems a little harsh.

55-27?
I'll take the under.

Agree with that, but from watching both, Crowder is more physical, a better defender and a better rebounder.

No question.

And probably a better overall player.

I still think Porter fits better though.

I don't think he is bad. Just a really bad defensive player. He doesn't do a lot of things well. He can score but that's about it. Wouldn't mind him on my roster as a bench player but until he improves in other areas then his starting days are over.

He should be valuable to a team needing a big for depth at that slot. Somehow I feel he is going the way of Sullinger

He is 33% for his career. 2017 was his best by like 6 percentage points. I expect him to settle in to 36 or 37% next year. Which is fine, but not great. If he hits close to 40% again, then the scouting report on him will officially change and I will be wrong.

If Johnson keeps it up, he fills the "Draymond" role rather nicely. Although not Draymond, he's valuable. I agree, he's too low. Lots of guys ranked ahead of him based on name.

The man played out his contract without distraction and became a FREE AGENT.
I get that it stings, but teams also have the opportunity to lure FREE AGENTS away from other teams.

And, what's wrong with choosing the easier path to winning, all star games, all NBA teams, etc??
All of those things correlate to $$$, which is the bottom line 99.5% for both sides of the equation.

It's accumulatory butt-hurt. Utah gets minor free agents, but not major FA's.....it's a franchise that hasn't been able to compete CONSISTENTLY since the end of the Malone-Stockton era.

For Utah to be able to compete consistently.....they need management like SA that can draft and coaching like SA that can develop that talent.

Yep.
It's about fucking time a top level player went East.
The talent level difference between the conferences is a joke.
Of course I hoped he'd choose Miami, but Boston was also a great choice for him.
