It is a sacrifice. He could have been greedy and got the max while forcing the Warriors to lose out on Livingston and Iggy. 34 million yearly is obviously more than 25 million. Let's just say he decides to opt in next year then he is losing out on 18 million.

It's a sacrifice, but it will more then pay off for him more then likely.
Championships are worth a lot more then 10M. ( ask Wade).
Keeping the team together was a prudent move.

When guys like Paul Millsap and Kyle Lowry are making significantly more, and Otto Porter is making the same, you are talking about a huge sacrifice.

Millsap was over-paid to go to Denver.....they had to. Not many players go there as a FA and the Kings offered that just to try and get him, forcing Wizards to match. No way Porter is "worth 26 million."

Not only that but leaving OKC for rings, and then breaking the team's bank would be a horrible look.

It's a business.
He did in both cases what he though was best for him.

I think what the Kings are offering Otto Porter is cool. Get that wing by any means necessary.

I agree to an extent. These guys make it up with endorsements and things like that. But he did leave money on the table that he could've gotten so that key cogs in the team like Livingston and Iggy could stay on the team.

That's still roughly $15 mil that he let go.

In other words it is a sacrifice?

Not the point.
A lot worse are making a lot more.

Yeah, it takes a bit to swallow your pride on that. KD should be making what Curry's going to make, yet he's going to make $15 mil less per year. Sure, he's going to be making millions regardless. But when you see guys that you're better than in your field make significantly more, it hits your ego a bit.

KD is just trying to rack up those championships. He won't be leaving GS no time soon.

The Warriors will pay the lux tax for a few seasons but they'll be making some hard decisions before all is said and done. It's punitive and the longer they pay it....the worse it becomes.

I'd rather keep Draymond than Thompson when that situation comes. But shit that's hard.

@WiggyRuss

One dozen custom Kupcakes costs on average $36.00
So, he sacrificed 3,166,667 of them.
Pretty decent guy, right?
