That would be interesting. At least he would know how to use Murray.

Cowboys' Jeremy Mincey: Greg Hardy experience 'was just too much'

By Jared Dubin | Staff Writer

January 12, 2016 2:56 pm ET

Greg Hardy is a divisive figure in NFL circles. He's a terrific football player, but he also appears to be not such a great citizen off the field or in the locker room. You know all about his alleged domestic violence incident, as well as his smacking of coaches' clipboards, his sideline dust-ups with teammates, his inappropriate comments about guns and opponents' wives, his riling up of opposing fans, and his routine lateness and/or non-attendance to team meetings.

Because of all that, some Cowboys teammates reportedly "soured on" Hardy by the end of the season. One of those teammates appears to be fellow defensive lineman Jeremy Mincey, who made his feelings known to a local radio station this week, according to ESPN.com.

"I hate [that] it happened. You talk about a team that was so close knit and tight, and all of a sudden it was just different," Mincey said. "I wouldn't say that he's the reason for that happening, but sometimes change, sometimes if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You know what I mean? And sometimes with change, the team is different. Regardless of how great this athlete is and regardless of this and that, if they're not mentally on the same page, you're not going to get the same results."

It's unclear if the "it" Mincey refers to there is the Cowboys signing Hardy or that there was "tension" that developed around him by the end of the season, but either way it's not exactly a ringing endorsement of Hardy. Mincey elaborated on his comments, saying that he got to know Hardy by sitting beside him in the locker room but that it was "tough" to deal with him.

"He sits right beside me, so he's welcomed every day, you know what I mean? I have to deal with him, and being that you have to deal with him, I grew accustomed to a misunderstood person and I got to know him a little better than a lot of people did," Mincey said. "It was tough. It was tough. You know, you got this guy, who you want to be a leader, and then you got that guy. It was just too much."

As far as bringing Hardy back goes, Mincey did not seem thrilled by the idea. "I think it will be good for the younger guys, which I don't know how they feel about him personally, I mean I haven't spoke to them or asked," Mincey said, referring to not having Hardy in the locker room next season. "It would be me or him, you see what I'm saying? Like, you could have either or. It's hard to have two types of line mentality guys in one room, so it's tough to figure out who the younger guys are going to follow. Of course they're going to look up to a guy who's a prolific player. But I just understand the game, and I know what it takes to win."

Read the Mincey/ Hardy story earlier, I was more open than most to bring him back, but no longer. Let him go.

I don't think this is (new) news. It only confirms what many of us saw with our own eye balls. I didn't want Hardy in the first place, and I definitely don't want him back after this past season.

Did any of you catch what Hardy said when asked if he would like to come back to Dallas? I'm paraphrasing here, but it went something like this: Hardy:"yea I would like to be back in Dallas next year. They let me just be me. They let me atone for my past actions and are going to help me change the world". LMFAO!!!! For the record, Hardy being Hardy is showing up late for practically every team activity, getting into altercations on the sidelines with teammates and coaches alike, and just generally being a dip shit and saying regretful things.

Assuming someone out there does sign Hardy for some stupid reason, that would make us eligible for a comp pick based on his salary right?

Surely there has to be another owner as dumb as Jerry to pay that much money for such a terrible person. I miss Al Davis, he kept Jerry out of so much trouble.

I'm not sure if it was in this article or a different one where they talked about how he was always late for meetings and wasn't punished or held accountable. If true, Letting him be chronically late for meetings and doing nothing about it is completely contradictory to everything Garrett says and does. Shame on Garrett for that. Let someone else deal with that next year IMO

I agree. Garrett obviously put a lot of thought and effort into "team chemistry". Last year you could really see it and hear it in interviews with players. If you watched any of the interviews with Hardy this year on the Cowboys web site he would always say something that made you scratch your head and say "did I misunderstand that?" Then he would continue with his bs and make it perfectly clear you did not miss anything but it just that he is that full of himself and is that much of an asshole. The change the world remark was one of those. I was amazed not one reporter in that group said"what the hell are you talking about?"

I believe Hardy was made untouchable by Jerry. Garrett tried to re-assert his control by making examples of other players - like the two who were cut for not wearing suits on a team flight. Unfortunately I don't think there was anything Garrett could do with Hardy except pull him aside for a good stern talking to. Jerry is to blame here.

I'm not letting Garrett off that easy. I don't think he is quite the puppet he is at times made out to be.

That's fine. Maybe you believe Garrett should have stood up for his principles more that he did? We don't know exactly where Garrett - or Jerry - drew the line on Hardy.

What I do know is, last time Jerry was having visions of a Super Bowl and a stud player with a checkered past was available, Bill Parcells ended up with Owens. And then Bill left. Owens was a Cowboy for a while longer...

I'm giving Garrett a pass on this one. What Mincey said was very telling. Obviously Garrett didn't completely abandon his principles - otherwise why cut Christian Michael and D.J. White for something so simple as not wearing a suit for a flight? I think Hardy was given a pass by ownership and Garrett's hands were tied when it came to any sort of discipline. The other players in the locker room got fed up with this if you believe Mincey - which I do. There was a story about Mincey trying to take Hardy under his wing after photos of Hardy's GF came out. For Mincey to pull a 180 and come out with this stuff on the record tells me a lot.

Of course Hardy was a Jerry signing. I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about letting him be late. And remember back then no one was taking a draft card out his hand either. And the other two are exactly the point i was making. Garrett was all talk on Hardy and I'm not buying he had zero say. not for a second. Jerry let others do their job to some extent the last two years. My worry is that changes next year...Even if you want to say that's all Jerry, then shame on Garrett for staying. Either way he dropped his principles on this one.

So give me a reason why Garrett gives Hardy a pass, if not for ownership? He maintained the same approach with every other player on the roster. It doesn't add up. Garrett from day 1 never sounded very enthusiastic about having Hardy on the roster.

There is no good reason. That is my point. Why did he do it? Until I hear otherwise can only go with because he is a good player and he figured 'I'll deal with it for one year..' Never saw him say much about Dez's sideline tantrums either. Kind of made excuses for him actually by telling us how "passionate" he is...

I'm pretty sure all was lost when Jerry pronounced Hardy as a leader

Not a whole lot of head coaches worth their salt would work for Jerry. I think the owens/parcels situation sealed the deal on that

Good reason or not, Jerry is the reason. It's the only scenario that makes any sense. And the same thing goes for Dez, I'd imagine. Jerry loves his pet projects, Dez was one, and Hardy was just the latest. No head coach in Dallas is going to have any authority over these situations as long as Jerry is the owner. JMHO

No way. It's just too easy and convenient to say it's all Jerry. Do you really think Jerry told Garrett to ignore Hardy being late for meetings? How would Jerry even know when it occurs? You think he needs Jerry's OK to make players run laps for screwing up in practice too? Not saying Jerry isn't part of it, but there is no way Garrett and the other coaches don't play at least some role and deserve part of the blame.

Who's to say Garrett didn't penalize Hardy once or twice then Jerry stepped in and said to leave the "Leader" alone.
We may never know, at least as long as Jerry walks the earth or Garrett is the coach in Dallas.

Who knows what could have happened, but if there were a penalty we would likely have known and Garrett did address it and from what I read Hardy was respectful, but then Just didn't listen at all or change at all. It just doesn't pass the smell test that Garret had no say whatsoever in the matter. He is the head coach of an NFL Football team and not in his first year. Weren't you the guys saying Jerry wasn't even GM any more and in fact Stephen was (personally I don't agree at all that Jerry gave up that oower)? So now he's even more involved than in the past? I just don't see it myself. But Jerry will be Jerry I guess...
