So the Giants basically just said they would only trade for JD Martinez and his $11M contract if they were able to send comparable dollars to Detroit. So someone off the roster.

Dernard Span is making $11M next year..... but only in our dreams that's a deal that would go down.

How about the White Sox though. Wow, what a couple of days.

Moncada-Kopech-Giolito-Lopez-Dunning-Basabe-Diaz For Sale and Eaton. Jose Abreu, Quintana, Frazier are all on the market too, they could be adding more young players.

I think @msgkings322 is finally getting the fire sale he wanted from the White Sox.

Apparently, Heston is heading to Seattle. The teams are just working out the details...

Yea. Makes me think that the Giants don't feel his late-season problems in '15 were related to his hitting "the wall", and were, instead, more about his lack of ability to adjust.

Or, they are super-stacked with 4 starters and have enough comp for the #5 slot that he is expendable...

Well, we have Blach, Cain, Suarez, Blackburn, Beede, Gregorio, Slania, and Stratton around. Are all those guys ready to step in right now? No, but they're close and Heston actually has a bit of value where we might be able to get a low-A prospect or cash relief out of it. And Crick has the benefit of being younger so he sticks around.
There is plenty of help at AAA for 2017 so I am not surprised that Heston has been "forgotten". Still find it sad for the player when events like this happen to him, with much of it out of his control (except for the lackluster performance toward the end of 2015, but most of the rotation went through that, if memory serves correctly).

Yes, I am finally seeing what needs to be done. I'm a little puzzled about dealing Eaton though as he has 5 years of team control. Why not have him be a veteran presence to help the rebuild and still be on the team in 3 years when presumably they are ready to be good?

Also, I'm not as happy with just getting pitching prospects for the most part, they are more risky. The Cubs homegrown people were hitters, their important pitchers were almost all FAs.

But overall, happy Reinsdorf finally said fuck it I'm willing to suck for a while to do it right, and have 8000 fans per game. With the Cubs WS win no one cares about the Sox for a while anyway.

Bruh, you got Moncada! Thee hitting prospect in the game! I'm not as high on Giolito as others though. More moves to come.

So Chapman just signed a 5-year $86M deal with the Yankees. In the contract, he is restricted from being traded to any teams in California. Not a no-trade clause, but literally restricted. I've never seen that before.

So much for the $100 million closer

More moves to come true but Abreu and Frazier won't bring much back. Quintana would but with 4 years left on his deal I'd be surprised if he gets dealt. Eaton got a huge haul they couldn't say no.

So Jansen is deciding between LA and Washington now? Who else is looking for a closer? Could his market have dried up? Could the doggies end up getting a deal?

Looks like the fish are going after Jansen HARD. Reportedly, they have a 5/80 on the table for him.

So the Giants didn't gain or lose anyone in the rule 5 draft this morning. Rogers must not be a legit player. I figured he was near ready, but no one wanted to give him a shot.

Shows what we know...

I believe he also cannot be traded at all for the 3 years of his contract.

I seem to remember at least 5 teams in the market for a closer but maybe that was before the Cubs and Yankees landed their guys. But I thought there was someone else looking for a closer besides the Marlins, Dodgers and Nationals.

Hopefully, he looks good at AAA and does well in a callup . . . and proves us right and all the haters wrong!
