Adam Duvall is a finalist for the Gold Glove. And it's actually well deserved.

Brandon Crawford is up against Russell and Freddy Galvis

Joe Panik is up against DJ LeMahiue and Jean Segura

Buster Posey is up against Yadier Molina and Jonathan Lucroy (???)

Russell will win at SS, and that just proves the award is next to worthless.

LeMahiue SHOULD win amongst those three, but if what we have seen the last couple weeks is truly indicative, Baez should have won. I am big fan of his right now.

Lucroy being a finalist is ANOTHER indicator that this award is bunk.

How in the world do we miss on moving Adam Duvall to LF? That was exactly the move we needed in 2015, and would have helped immensely this year.

It just goes to show that you need to be able to think out of the box when it comes to putting a player in one position vs another. Moving from 3rd to LF just is not that big a move. it's freaking baseball, not the practice of medicine. At some meaningful point in their career, I'll bet almost every player has played every position. If a team needs something, try it.

In the Giants' defense, Duvall did play 46 games at 3rd, 45 games at 1st and 10 games in LF with Sacramento before being traded in 2015. However, they obviously weren't too interested in trying him as a legitimate outfielder since he primarily played in the infield and was traded.

That merely restates the core issue. My question is, why weren't they interested in trying him as a legitimate outfielder? He obviously has the talent, so why didn't they see it? It's not like he popped the red pill and suddenly became a GG LF.

It is a good question. All I kept hearing is that he was below average at 3rd base and the hope was that he would be an adequate 1st baseman. My guess is that when the Reds got him, they told him that he would get a shot at left field and something lit a fire under Duvall to work hard on his defense. It could be short sighted on the Giants' part but they don't usually give home grown guys much of a chance to play in the outfield.

Josh Johnson signed to a minor league deal. Hasn't pitched in the bigs since 2013 because of various injuries.
I wanted him about 3 years ago. At this point, he is transaction wire oddity, and nothing more.

So, it sounds like Phil Nevin will be our 3rd base coach if he's not hired as the D-Backs manager.

Nevin played under Bruce Bochy from '95-'06. Most recently, Nevin has been the manager of the Reno Aces.

D-Backs hire Torey Lovullo as the manager.

Looks like Phil Nevin is our new 1st or 3rd base coach.

Phil Nevin and Jose Alguacil are our new base coaches. Two AAA managers last year in the PCL.

Alguacil is another guy the Giants have been grooming for a staff position. He was a minor league instructor at various levels from from 2007-14, then in 2015 he took the role of manager at AA, then took the role of manager at AAA this past season. He sounds like a good all-around person, and someone the Giants like a lot. He's also someone the younger players are familiar with, and probably current Giants are familiar with if he's been around our Spring Training ever (which I'm sure he has been).

Report: Former Padres All-Star joins Giants' coaching staff

nevin played under bochy in sd. from what i can remember he has a little bit of an edge to him, 'red-ass' in the vernacular. i'd like to see a little fire out there on the base paths.
