People don't understand the position he was in when he took flyers on guys like Jennings and Harden and what those contracts really were in terms of $. Texas had no real depth in the organization pitching wise and he was hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with those type deals. In the terms of starting pitchers those deals were not really a ton of money and if they pan out, he looks like a genius. The fact they didn't and there wasn't lots more money or years attached makes them a reasonable gamble and not "worst contracts".

Choo's signing shouldn't be judged by how he performed last year. Most of the negatives associated with that signing were always going to be mainly in the last 3-4 years of the contract. Although there should be enough bad in those years to say the signing was bad overall.

I don't understand the logic behind you saying a one year deal can't be a bad signing. It isn't as bad as the 7 year deal Choo got, but that doesn't mean it wasn't bad.

We disagree on how Choo will perform throughout his contract.

Choo will probably be moved before the Rangers pay the contract in full. The contract can be judged after we see what the Rangers end up eating in $ and what the return ends up being and how those players fair. He also could come back healthy and provide considerable value in the next couple years, before being moved. If you just look at the first year with the injuries and and the total $'s and years overall, yes most would consider it bad. Cant call a 7 year contract one of the "worst" after 1 year with 6 more left until it has played out.

He's awful, I blame ESPN for continuing to let this guy report on baseball
As if the Rangers aren't big enough for espn to have a sole writer covering them.

One thing I will say, while I think Choo could still perform favorably offensively through most of his contract and be worth most of what he is being paid, defensively he is not going to be close. I understand he was paid as a leadoff guy with a high OBP and not for his defense. He was hurt last season as well which probably didn't help but he should be in RF only, as he is not a good outfielder

Actually, Oakland is the perfect place for white trash like Josh Donaldson. A polluted sewer infested with the filthiest people... he should feel right at home there.

Not Torii Hunter rumors again.....

He may have the Rangers on his list but Hunter still wants to get paid too. Not sure he is the player the dollars it would take, would best be spent on at this point.

Not suggesting we go after Torii, but he'd slot nicely in the 2 hole.
