Claudio and
normally they carry 7 relievers so they may keep Claudio up with the ML team

Depends on the health of Scheppers, if hurt I'd say Claudio, if not Claudio probably goes to AAA

Looking at his stats, Freeman looks like a LHP that struggles getting LHHs out, same as Claudio

MLB Pipeline checks in from Rangers camp | texasrangers.com

If right-hander Luis Ortiz hadn't missed three weeks with forearm tightness last spring, he likely wouldn't have been available to the Rangers with the 30th selection in the Draft. He has had no physical issues since and could be a steal.

"He looks great," Daly said. "He's been a solid 90-94 mph this spring, he can spin it and it's easy strikes. He could have the most upside of any of our pitching prospects."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The 29th overall choice in the 2012 Draft, Brinson recorded a 20-20 season in his full year as a pro, but he also finished one short of the Minor League strikeout lead with 191. After making improvements to his swing and pitch recognition, he reduced his whiff rate from 38 percent in 2013 to 25 percent last year. Brinson will probably start 2015 at high Class A High Desert, and he could post huge numbers in the hitter-friendly California League.

"He has premium tools and high aptitude," Daly said. "He's using the opposite field more and controlling the strike zone more, and he's got such easy power. We hope he can make the same jump that he did last year."

Leftys hit .190 against Claudio last year and right handed hitters hit .345 off of him last year. Alex didn't struggle against leftys when he came up last year.

Maybe TEX RHP go after weak LHbatters and throw at the feet of good LHbatters. Don't need LHP who can't at least get LHbatters out. Where is Neal Cotts again?

You're probably right. Also, I read that Freeman was actually better against RH hitters so he's not really a specialist.

RHers hit .195 against him. LHers hit .298. Really he doesn't solve the problem, but he was good overall.

Edit: Guess I should've refreshed before posting.

He's looked pretty lousy this spring against LHHs

I'm hoping its just a bad streak

Despite their acquisition of lefty Sam Freeman today, the Rangers are still on the hunt for bullpen help, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram tweets. They are not currently in any discussions for position players or starting pitchers. Neftali Feliz, Tanner Scheppers and Freeman currently appear to be the only near-locks for the Rangers bullpen. They have, however, gotten some impressive Spring Training performances from inexperienced pitchers like Keone Kela, Roman Mendez and Jon Edwards. Here are more quick notes from the American League.

Intentionally or not, the Nationals, who have lefty relievers available, gave the lefty-starved Mets a look at Jerry Blevins Saturday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post writes. (Blevins struck out Curtis Granderson but gave up a triple to Lucas Duda.) The Nationals have Blevins, along with Xavier Cedeno and Matt Thornton, and all are out of options, so they could end up trading one.

There is always Mitch Moreland as a LHRP.

Another OT question ... how the heck do you kill off the sound from the dang ads that run at the bottom of every page? Yea ... know i can turn the speakers off ... but how do you reconfigure that space or the ad driver to kill off the sound?

Scheppers is a lock but Edwards isn't? Don't get that statement.

Am I the only one here who is completely worn out with all this "left-handers can only pitch to LH?"

Ya know starters start on their scheduled day regardless of how stacked the Lineup is with batters on the opposite side of the plate.

I'm sorry, but I still think there should be room - certainly a desire - to have a pitcher who can come outta the pen and get people out PERIOD.

But like I said, maybe it's just me.

Some will hate this article due to their feelings about the author. But I think his idea regarding the "Evaluation" is pretty good one. Won't go anywhere, but it still makes some sense to me.

Grant: Spring training is horribly, utterly broken; here's how it can be fixed | Dallas Morning News

When I was watching the game yesterday and saw the Padres stretching Ross against some of the better players the Rangers have to offer I was thinking how we had Colby, Holland and Gallardo facing minor leaguers. I know they are getting their work in but thought would it not benefit them doing it against better competition. But maybe not. Like I said, it was just a thought. But I noticed Evan was hitting on this some as well.

I actually like Schierholtz as he seemed to put the bat on the ball. But we have a lot of OF options so looks like we are sticking with youth.

I do too. But since it appears DeShields is going to be on the team - hell, he's starting on opening day - and I can't see sending Smolinski down, he's the odd man out for now.

Don't be so sure. Schierholtz gives us a left handed hitting option off the bench. Think David Murphy.

Hasn't it already been stated that Schierholtz isn't making the opening day roster?

Found it, "Schierholtz took his release and becomes a free agent."

Yes and was the reason for my post earlier. I guess I thought everyone already knew it.

I wish we could have kept him. But certainly don't blame him for wanting to try and hook on with another MLB team.
