I don't think Houston is as far away as some of you do. They've got some ulta high end talent coming through the pipeline..2 years theyll make some noise. Their owner sucks tho, he's the Max Bialystock of MLB. Content to field an inferior team, so long as he turns a profit.

Who is his Bloom then?

I don't think they're 5 years away like terps says but maybe 3 years though

In today's baseball world of international signings and FA almost anyone can turn the corner in 3 years.

Crane has been an awful owner. However, he must have committed to some type of long term plan in order to have lured Jeff Luhnow over from the Cards. Ludnow is one good man, and smart beyond smart. I think their farm system was ranked in the 20's and now it's top 10 under his guidance.

I don't see how that makes Crane an awful owner.. he's put people in place to potentially put the team in a good place when they are ready...

To be a bad owner would be to blindly throw money at pointless free agents that don't help you win anyway

The Astros before this were non-contenders and stuck in the doldrums as well

At least now they have a chance, it might be in 3-5 years but it looks good for them if you know anything about baseball, which most Houston fans don't

That being sad, he hasn't shown to be a good owner either... yet, time will tell if they hold true to a good plan or not

Funny, while driving in this morning I had the thought "wonder how different things would be if Cuban had got the team". I realize he was only driving up the price to make money off the debt he bought, but wonder if he would have gone Magic Johnson on the team and bought up all the big contracts.

Probably the best part of reading the comments on ESPN is people's hilarious replies to those 'make 7500 working from home' posts.

The Yankees and Infante are "too far apart" in their negotiations and a deal is unlikely, a source tells ESPN New York's Wallace Matthews. The Yankees will keep their three-year/$24MM offer to Infante on the table but in the meantime will consider Stephen Drew as an alternative/

I want the Yankees to get Infante. The Reds are interested in Infante, and if they were to get him they would need to move Phillips. If they move Phillips I think Choo would be stolen.

I'd like to think that Cubes is smart enough to let the FO make baseball decisions. I'm sure he'd be willing to add payroll tho if the fit was right

Doubt it. Cuban hates luxury taxes. He would be as cheap as he has been lately with the mavs. You don't get to be a billionaire by throwing money away.

I don't want to be pessimistic but there is the chance Choo signs somewhere besides Texas and another team scoops in and snags Cruz really quickly and the Rangers are left with plan Q. Maybe its what happened last year after nothing was completed during the winter mtgs. This team still needs 2 bats and if those two guys are gone it makes finding 2 even decent options a stretch. I hope we don't have to fall back to plan Q.
