I don't want to be pessimistic but there is the chance Choo signs somewhere besides Texas and another team scoops in and snags Cruz really quickly and the Rangers are left with plan Q. Maybe its what happened last year after nothing was completed during the winter mtgs. This team still needs 2 bats and if those two guys are gone it makes finding 2 even decent options a stretch. I hope we don't have to fall back to plan Q.

This is the exact reason that I hope nobody snags Morales. Just in case they're stolen. I really want to believe that Nelly will wait until Choo is signed, and then we can overpay him at that point.

I just hope plan Q doesn't turn out to be Vernon Wells. I can't shake his name from my brain.

The winter meetings in general was awfully quiet. But our splash was made beforehand with the Fielder trade.

I also have a feeling that JD would re-open talks with the Dodgers about one of their OF'ers if we miss on Choo/Cruz. You could add Kemp and Morales.

Fordman you didn't? I could have gone my whole life without having to hear that option, makes me ill thinking about it. Though he showed some signs of life early last season I just don't think i would want him even for free and don't know that he'd upgrade anything in the outfield for the Rangers. That may be true if we had no one to play LF as well. Kidding some but mostly not, I liked the guy up until he became an Angel and then he became irrelevant

I've been saying this all along ..... I think JD is cutting it close. The longer Choo waits, the more likely a mystery team will emerge. How tight are we with Cruz? Maybe he resents us for making him the second priority ( you could argue after the suspension last year that he owes us one, we would of been a playoff team if he played those 50 games). With that said , JD must have a plan and Terps has been providing us with good reports. I'm glad these guys made it through the winter meetings. To be honest, I think we're screwed if we don't get 1 of them. The offense was unbearable last season.

Figured it would be mostly quiet when there were really the combo of Cruz and Choo and then not many big names left. Then unless there was someone involved in a trade like Kemp, I didn't expect much to happen as most of the commotion happened the week before really.

Will do. But you know Lainey will give him an ear full.

it's all BS, we offered that guy a unbelievable amount, much more than he's actually worth as EVERYONE KNOWS

and to make it worse, What's JD do? He can't wait for "now we need 8 years" Boras, we don't even have 3 OF's...and Boras is taking advantage of it.

F Boras...and Choo too
Unbelievable

I didn't say anything last night because I really did see this coming.
I think JD should move on quickly, then tell them both to shove it.

There's a point where it's just too insane.
I commend JD for trying

When I use to go to Sportshoopla I would click the MLB Forum and all the teams would come up and I would pick the Texas Rangers. But that has not happened the last 2 days and I have to search for our post. Is anyone else having that problem?

Yep, forgot to ask other posters

I am on board with telling them both we are moving on and offering Cruz another year and signing him. Then you can move on to Morales or another DH option. Nelly can stay in RF and Rios can play LF. In a year or 2 if you need to make Cruz the primary DH and a backup outfielder thats an option. I fear both Choo and Cruz get signed by other teams and we are left with last year again except the team offensively will be even more challenged offensively IMO.

I think he better move fast especially on Morales, I really don't want Kemp because of the cost and the injuries, but like you said, we could sign one of the others.

He can't affford to wait for Choo.
imo, and I don't think he will

I'd rather give Cruz the massive overpay at this point, agree...but I fear he'll wait it out with Choo

maybe not though.
In any case, get Morales

I think they will be better offensively this year assuming no moves

Still no choo ehh?

Still nothing unless you count that big Lillibridge signing today and he was big, batted a solid .119 in 61 PA's last year

What makes you think that? I will go ahead and give you the fact that Leonys and Profar will make some improvement

And the addition of fielder

Still leaves you no real leadoff and I don't think the catching offensively with Soto and JP is better than the AJ and Soto tandem. You lose the production of Gentry offensively and replace that with an unproven prospect and while David Murphy was putrid last year you don't know for a fact Choice will be better in his first ML season, if thats what it ends up being.

get Morales and a OF....if Borasshole wants to come back around, fine...drop the offer down a little.

then start praying these rookies/prospects (Choice) work out.
I don't know, but I'm worried about the Yu window too.
