Plus, the FA market for next year is awful offensive wise. Waiting til next year doesnt appear to be a good option. Brett Gardner is the best outfielder. Maybe there actually is more steam to this then we think. There's no point in signing one next year. Might as well get it out of the way this year and not way til next year when brett freakin gardner will want over 20 million a year
This, if it all takes place, would take us out of Kemp, I would think.

Definitely. But I'd be okay with that. Someone with some time on their hands make a lineup with those two in it lol.

Seems like a handful of teams that were in on choo originally have now backed off. Maybe his price demand will come down a little closer to what we are willing to offer.

I feel like that would be an ideal situation. Moreso than getting kemp. Get two great hitters and see the offers you can get for moreland and martin.

I wouldn't call Cruz a great hitter at this point in his career. He's still above average though. He might have hit 40 homers last year if he played the whole season, or he might have tweaked a hammy again. However I would be okay with him at DH for cheap enough. Don't think that getting rid of martin, a guy they have put a lot of time in on is wise though. Wait which martin? Perez or Leo?

That is a good point terps. The money we spend now to set this team up for a few years may look like a bargain down the road. Beltre at $16 mill to some people may have seemed idiotic to some people now we don't think anything of it.

Yeah...remember when Boras wanted crazy money for Bourn and Swisher last year. They sure didn't end up with anything he thought they would.

I wish it were all the simple. I wish that simply playing close to Dallas meant that Texas could spend 200MM a year. That would be seriously badass. However it's not feasible or prudent and does not line up with reality.

Very true. That being said this market is still growing from a baseball perspective. I do think eventually think this can be a top 4 or 5 payroll and being one of the upper echelon elite baseball markets in the league.

Idk who gardner's agent is, but because he's the best outfielder I'm sure he'll want Choo money. Get the bats now while they're cheaper. Then hopefully in the next coming offseasons we don't even have to make that much noise. Cruz and Choo would make us favorites I'd think in the ALW

I agree he is above average. I think he has not started to decline just yet. One of those guys who really matures late. Can be a 260-270/25-30 HRs/100 RBIs player if he is able to play 150 games.

I know you're just posting that because its rangers news, but as I said last night, I'm done believing anything JD says to the public. I mean, think about it. Why would he keep SOO many things close to the chest and then come out in public and say something semi revealing like that? It makes me believe that maybe we ARE close on choo and he's trying to keep cautious of any mystery team

As long as there is stability, yes. If the fans know they can trust the owners then the base grows. What Texas has rebounded from is pretty damn amazing in just a few short years. I find it hilarious that they are criticized by know nothing fans that knock them for "trying to build through the minors, because half of those players never work out anyway." Just a lot of silly notions that need to be changed.

I doubt we'd be trading away Leonys after we just traded away Gentry, because then we need an Center fielder to play for us. I also wouldn't want to get rid of Martin Perez, I like his potential and he's on such a team friendly deal.

Got carried away when I called Cruz a great hitter, but he's what we need. A power bat that drives in runs and can hit it out at any time. I wish he wasn't so damn streaky, but that's just the type of player he is

That team friendly deal would get max value in return though.

That's about as intelligent of a response as you're going to get over there. But you do bring up a good point that there are multiple layers to determining a team's worth and commensurate payroll.

Heavens, I was over there this morning and Sports Nation had asked which team should be called America's Team. You should have seen the non-fact based horseshit posted.

Glad we're gone.

All of our pitchers are techincally on "team friendly" deals. Not just perez. Even darvish. Hell, if you look at the results, darvish is more team friendly then anyone else lol
