Mitch plays a better first base and he has value against RHP. It would be very wise to hit him 7th against RHP and play 1B. Fielder has loads of value in his bat alone. You get two LHH in vs RHP that way. Texas doesn't need to worry about bringing a Beltran in to DH now. They have Fielder vs RHP.

I agree. Beltran is likely out of the discussion now. Which may be for the best considering his age. I still say get McCann out choo and it's been a hell of an off-season.

Yeah it really is. Who would DH against lefties though?

I don't know yet. Cruz might end up taking a cheap deal to stay in Texas and then you have him for DH vs LHP and some occasional OF starts. Also you don't lose a pick by signing him.

I would still take McCann, because he would be a great DH vs LHP. Just don't know if they are willing to go over 5/90 for him.

Jaar brought up an interesting point. What if the angels drop 250+ million and sign Cano just to one up the rangers?

.... They still finish third in the division. :laugh3:

Umm ok so my brother texted me a little while ago and I was and still am shocked by this trade. No doubt this trade benefits both teams. The fact that they're sending us back 30 million is great. I think Fielder will be great for at least half of his contract years wise. His weight still does concern me but short term his is dynamite for us. Do you think Kins was dealt because his refusal to change positions? I'm curious to why Detroit would give up on him so early. Illitch has no issue spending money but maybe they'd like to keep Scherzer and figured Prince was the one they could part ways with.

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not surprised Detroit would want Kins, didn't see the Fielder coming.

Anyone have the details on how much Fielder is going to cost us?
WOW, just WOW

Adding a catcher with McCann's bat would be worth it and would make rolling with our current outfield palatable.

I like the idea of signing Cruz back for all of those exact reasons. If it's Cruz, then you have to put EA or Martin in the lead off spot.

Now EA, Beltre, and Moreland are the only three everyday position players from the 2011 team still under contract...

138 for 7 years. He is going to cost us 4 more million than Ian would have next year. The Tigers threw in 30 million.

138/7 at 19.7 MM AAV. And the first two years it's only gonna be like 4 extra million per year.

Just over 19 million a year. With Detroit eating all of Ian's contract they only raise payroll 4 million this year.

More moves are to come I think. Mitch has value and I doubt he'll get much time at 1B so he's probably expendable.

Cruz may be the best option to upgrade the outfield. If he takes a reasonable deal that may keep McCann in the mix.

Well obviously Detroit was not on Kins's no trade list, or he waived it. I'm behind here.
And I wouldn't blame Kins if he wanted to stay at second

Now Detroit gets to keep Scherzer, makes sense.

This may mean Choo is less needed now. They can still go after McCann and I'd love if they resign Cruz for 3 years as a mostly DH. Damn this lineup could be sick next season.

Kinsler had a no trade so he had to waive it to have this trade go through. So yeah Kinsler didn't have a problem waiving it and that's ok. Detroit is a great team and a really good baseball town as well.
