I see, and if he chooses not to take any offers then no posting fee would be paid by any team. With it that cheap I say the Rangers at least make a run at him but I am pretty confident that we won't pay what the Yanks or Dodgers will.

The posting fee is cheap but the contract he wants is not, no way I go anywhere CLOSE to 15 million a year for him

For him, Darvish's original 6 year 60 million is about what he deserves

Yeah you are way out of the loop, the rules changed this year

Now all teams can negotiate, like any other free agent, and the team that comes to an agreement with him before January 26th??? (not sure on the date), will then have to pay the now standard 20 million dollar posting fee, after the contract is signed, if no one signs him he goes back to Rakuten

LOL, thanks for indicating I was out of the loop which I sort of already did myself. I had heard that they changed it but I hold down two high demanding jobs and don't get time to read up on everything… not to mention I have other interests. So, I don't mind just asking and finding out from my peers.

It doesn't hurt to try though… if it gets to steep you just bow out. The Rangers might have more inside info on this guy too… given that they have his training partner on their roster. Given the discounted posting fee though, I don't think that the Rangers will be willing to go anywhere near what the Yanks or Dodgers will go. Especially with the recent commitment to Choo.

One thing I just realized in all the Choo stuff is that the Rangers had to have seen it as a chance to expand the fanbase in the same way they did when they signed Darvish. It actually makes me feel better about the back end of the contract. If Texas keeps doing this they might one day get a global tv deal worth loads of revenue.

This still makes me sad… I am going to miss Cruz. I just see no way he returns now and he was one of my favorites from the original core that got this whole thing going.

I guess there is still some hope that he takes a hometown discount and turns down playing time in the OF with another team and comes to DH with us but the odds of that are very slim.

Numbers can always change afterward. If Cruz resigns I expect Choo will change his number. Don't think it's a bigger deal as some may make it seem.

The more I've thought about it, I think I'd prefer flip flopping Martin & Profar in the order, it would break up back to back LHHs in Martin & Choo (though Profar is a switch hitter)

But also it shapes up a potential later in the game situation of Martin, Profar, Choo & Fielder order

Martin could be the havoc wreaker if he gets on, Profar has always been a solid OBP guy, Choo's next best spot would be the #3 spot and Fielder is ideally a #4 guy, sets up good situations later in the game

Choo
Andrus
Fielder
Beltre
Rios/Moreland
Moreland/Rios
Soto
Martin
Profar

Another reason that Tanaka might make more sense for TX than some might think.
