Bit of head scratcher there. Don't hate the pick, but there was a decent chance he'd be there at 64.

And with the 13th pick of the 2nd round, the Seahawks select....Paul Richardson, WR, Colorado:

"That's a Pete Carroll pick right there. Richardson is pure speed; think of a poor man's DeSean Jackson. Richardson can take the lid off a defense. The Seahawks just got a bunch of speed." -- Mike Mayock

STRENGTHS Jab steps and accelerates into routes. Fluid and field fast. Chews up ground with long strides. Stretches the field vertically and can run under deep throws. Can drive off corners, break off and work back to the quarterback. Can extend to pluck off his frame. Shows he's capable of making the spectacular grab. Productive despite a poor supporting cast. Has a 38-inch vertical jump.

WEAKNESSES Is very lean. Needs to bulk up and get stronger. Has been injured and durability could be an issue. Vulnerable to the jam. Does not separate consistently -- needs to become a more refined, deceptive route runner. Average burst out of breaks. Lets some throws into his body and drops throws he shouldn't. Gets out-muscled at the catch point for 50-50 balls. Limited run strength. Underpowered blocker.

BOTTOM LINE Very lean, narrow-framed, finesse "X" receiver who made an immediate impact at Colorado before knee injuries derailed his progress. Measurables will go a long way in determining his ultimate draft value, and his success at the next level is dependent upon his ability to make plays in the vertical passing game. Has a boom-or-bust element. Size and durability are question marks.

He finished his career with 13 receptions over 50 yards and is the receptions leader at the University of Colorado with 83. He sits second on the touchdowns list (after Scotty McKnight). Saying that Richardson had the greatest season for a receiver in Colorado history is far from a stretch, it's accurate.

Other then being a consensus reach? Yeah, I know a bit.

Not very athletic but a great work ethic and good technique. Seen as a late 4th/early 5th round pick...but I know that goes out the window with SEA.

OT Justin Britt, Missouri

STRENGTHS: Looks the part of today's prototypical left tackle, possessing impressive height, very long arms and a trim middle. Good initial quickness, especially as a run blocker, firing off the ball to turn and seal defenders from the action. Physical. Gets a strong initial shove on the opponent, which oftentimes is enough to knock them onto their heels.
He has a wide base with good bend and flexibility in his kick-slide to keep the pocket clean. Plays with his knees bent, butt down and on the balls on his feet, giving him good balance. Slides well laterally to mirror defenders and uses his arm length and powerful shoves to keep opponents at bay. Good awareness and competitive spirit. Peels back to knock down unsuspecting defenders in pursuit of ball-carriers.

Experienced left and right tackle and some view him as a potential guard convert due to his power and tenacity.

WEAKNESSES: Possesses good initial quickness but tops-out quickly and too often isn't able to get to the second level in time to make the block on linebackers. Relies upon his initial shove too often, stopping his feet to get the emphatic punch on opponents and failing to latch on and sustain.

Will be viewed by some as a bit of a 'tweener as he may not possess the foot speed to remain outside but may be too tall for most quarterbacks to see over and has never played guard. Requires a thorough medical examination at the Combine as Britt missed the final three and a half games of 2012 with a torn ACL. Previously in the year, he suffered a fractured foot that kept him out of spring practice.

COMPARES TO: David Bakhtiari, Green Bay Packers - A year ago the former Colorado Buffalo caught my attention as a gritty pass-blocker with an impressive punch many were underrating, presumably because of the team's struggles to win games. Britt is taller than Bakhtiari and because of Missouri's sudden improvement against SEC competition, he's less likely to be overlooked.

Britt will be labeled a reach, but as Hawks we're used to that. Pete Carroll and Tom Cable obviously believe he'll be able to play somewhere on the right side of the Oline and he has plenty of LT experience so could backup Okung if he's out for any games. Questions will be raised about if he would of still been available for one of our 4th round picks.

OT Justin Britt, Missouri

STRENGTHS Solid build with a stout base and long torso. Quick enough to cut off the outside rush and give help where it is needed. Recognizes the blitz and displays good enough agility to adjust to movement. Good work ethic. Very good weight-room strength -- cleans nearly 400 pounds.

WEAKNESSES Operates out of a 2-point stance in a spread-option offense. Falls off blocks and does not finish. Very average sustain. Limited body control and recovery speed. Late to reach the block point on the second level. Does not create movement in the run game. Gives too much ground in pass protection.

BOTTOM LINE College left tackle with enough length and foot quickness to handle the blind side in a pinch, but is more ideally suited for the right side and could be best suited for a swing backup role. Has played nearly every position on the line and could add depth as a positional, wall-off blocker.

Seatimes -

Britt will be used initially at right tackle, where he will compete with second-year player Michael Bowie to replace Breno Giacomini, who signed with the Jets as an unrestricted free agent.

Offensive line coach Tom Cable, though, said he was impressed by Britt’s athleticism — he was a state champion heavyweight wrestler as a senior in high school — and maturity.

Britt started all 14 games at left tackle last year for Missouri. But Cable said it was watching film of Britt playing right tackle as a junior that sold him on his ability to play that spot.

Cable also said a conversation with Missouri coach Gary Pinkel proved a critical final word in deciding on Britt, listed at 6-5, 325 pounds.

“When I hear a guy like coach Pinkel say that this is a guy that can get it done and we feel really good about succeeding out of this program, that’s pretty strong to me,’’ Cable said.

Interesting piece of news from a few NFL scouts and Ian Rapoport. They are saying that the Hawks #1 target for the 32nd pick was DT Dominique Easley.

That the Seahawks were drooling over the prospect of this guy bum rushing the middle, while Bennett and Avril attacked the outsides.

But when the Pats took him at 29, the Seahawks immediately jumped on the trade back offers as they felt the other players they were targeting would be available mid 2nd.
