This is interesting. Most of the teams predicted to be in the running for the playoff don't have hard schedules. Not hard at all. It would be ironic if some of them coast all season and then hit a wall come playoff time.

Your #49 ranking also includes some really weak teams. But it sure beats hell out of Oklahoma's #93. And Alabama is #95? That means OU and Bama have a couple of tough games and the rest are mostly marshmallows.

I was originally surprised that Oregon's SOS is only at 49 with those, but then I took a look at our schedule (we are at 25) and we have:

Miami, @ MSU, @ Wisconsin, and @ Iowa, not to mention playing @ Fresno early in the year at 7:30 PM Pacific time (9:30 Central).

The NCAA method isn't very good, but still in the ball park.

Good games aren't where the bulk of the SoS comes from. Texas is up @ 26 in large part because your easier teams are still teams that would be ranked in the top60 or so, with a few exceptions.

Yeah, I'm hoping a couple teams surprise us and make it tougher by the end of the season rankings.

Duke at 101 is the lowest ranked team from one of the 5 major conferences. Alabama is the next lowest :) LOL. Iowa at 85!!! Slightly tougher schedule than Wisconsin and Oklahoma. Thts pretty sad since Iowas schedule is fucking horrendous. Although to be fair our SOS is only better BECAUSE we play Wisconsin where they only have to play Iowa....

How is that possible with 8 SEC teams on the schedule. I always hear that is the justification for 4 cream puffs annually. :noidea:

Utah at #11?

Stepping up to the plate Utes...:suds:

Oregon, Stanford, OSU outta the North. Ouch, worst possible draw. Add a roady to Michigan and DeRuyter's Fresno Bulldawgs coming to town.

There it is

Because the SEC was down last year and this is based off last years records.

Nevermind that it's a SoS based on win% which is flawed.

Like seeing FSU in the top 50 for a change. But it does help when your OOC is Ok State, ND, and UF. Citadel drops it, but so does Clemson. :laugh3:

You sound like I feel. We both hope to hell our conferences are better this year than they were in 2013. The Big XII was weak as a kitten last year.

Florida being weak hurt a lot. The East is already the weaker side of the SEC. We have Florida this year as our East game, so I'm hoping like hell they are improved. I think they pretty much have to be, they were injury plagued last year.

But it's still a matter of what I mentioned about Texas being 26. We have teams that wouldn't rank in the top100 right now, and those teams hurt SoS as SoS is an average. They totally cancel out the good games, and even though you are playing tough teams you still end up with a mediocre at best SoS. And you can still play team and win decently easy if they are ranked in the 40-60 area and be well rewarded in SoS.

2nd year in a row Alabama has had a weaker schedule. We did have decently tough schedules and it's like we over compensated for it(2010 we had 6 SEC teams coming off byes) and then the SEC got weaker top to bottom.

So yep, I'm hoping lots of teams on our schedule are improved.

SOS prior to the season are generally pretty marginal and the NCAA method is probably the worst way to measure SOS.

The NCAA SOS method, unless things have changed, is terrible. 11-1 MAC team = 11-1 SEC or Pac team.

All I can say is at #11 if that's the truth, we need to step up in a big way. I look at this as being an honor of having been ranked that high. The Highest in the PAC12 that is. I hope we can honestly say after the season we deserved that ranking by winning games.
