From hockeybuzz, so take it for what it's worth:

On Niskanen and Boyle

Niskanen is getting lots of interest and the Penguins are unsure as to what to do with him. He has the most value to probably the Pens themselves because he is their best moving D-man apart from Kris Letang. There are rumors out there that the Penguins could trade for Dan Boyle's rights from the Islanders. But the Pens may also still decide that they cannot let Niskanen get away.

On Philadelphia and Phaneuf...

There are just rumblings at his point but there is little doubt the Flyers are interested whenever a tough and offensive minded D-man is on the market and Phaneuf is among the toughest. The Leafs want Brayden Schenn and a high end pick I am told. Not sure the Flyers head that way but it's out there.

Mike Richards to NJ, NYI, Chicago or Anaheim?

It is starting to sound more and more like Mike Richards, fresh off the Stanley Cup victory, could be bought out or traded. The Blackhawks are among the teams most interested I am told if a trade were to occur. The Devils, Islanders and Ducks would have interest if he is bought out and Richie were to become a free agent.

Flyers looking at Brian Boyle

Brian Boyle, who is now a pending UFA after a very impressive playoff run, is in the run to be a Flyer UFA. I was also told the Wild and Canucks are interested.

On Benoit Pouliot...

He was one of the best forwards for the Rangers, despite taking too many offensive zone penalties.. Pouliot will get himself quite the raise. The Rangers want him back, but the Flyers, Wild, Vancouver, and Flames will all be courting the big guy as well...

LOL. no way in hell the flyers give up brayden schenn for dion phaneuf. even straight up that's a laugher.

I'd look at Brian Boyle. He's a great 4th line player.

Pouliot, I don't think the flyers really have a spot for him. Maybe on the 3rd line..

Schenn for Phaneuf please please please no!

Brian Boyle is a complete scrub until playoff time we could've kept Briere if we needed that.

Mike Richards before Boyle and please neither for us but thank you.

1) I totally agree

2) I do like Brian Boyle, the only knock on him is that he's not as physical as you'd like for a big guy, but he's a good solid 4th liner

3) Hell no on Pouliot, he takes at least one dumb penalty every game - he's not the type of guy you want

Just for fun:

B Schenn, LeCavalier, Grossmann and a 2nd for Phaneuf and Kadri?

Am I missing something? Aren't Schenn and Kadri just about the same player? So essentially, Vinny, Grossmand and 2nd for Phaneuf? If so, yes.

Nope, that about sums it up. Toronto isn't completely happy with Kadri for whatever reason, hence their interest in B Schenn as their 2C.

My main point was that there IS the possibility of a deal centering on Schenn and Phaneuf with the right pieces included.

I'd be cool with that. I like schenn better than kadri, but dumping vinny and adding phaneuf in the same transaction is quite helpful.

I like Kadri and Phaneuf is better than Nicklas Grossmann, but I would not do that - Phaneuf still has a terrible contract and I don't want to give up a pick that high

"I think they will trade Lecavalier for a modest return and try to upgrade team speed and two-way play up front a bit more. They may perhaps move one of Grossmann or Luke Schenn if they have an avenue to land a two-way defenseman who can move the puck but also not give up so much size that the Flyers defense corps starts to become too undersized on the whole (remember that Kimmo Timonen and Mark Streit are undersized finesse defensemen, and Andrew MacDonald is rather slightly built and not very physical despite all the shots he blocks). "

Hmmmmm.........me thinks we've seen a proposed trade that accomplishes this just recently....Move Vinny, check. Upgrade team speed, check. Upgrade puck movement on D without sacrificing size, check. Ok, maybe not an upgrade on two-way play up front, but....

Excellent writeup by Bill as usual. I don't want either Schenn going anywhere. Neither one has been around long enough to see what player they can truly be? It would sicken me to see Luke traded after trading JVR to get him here. I'm not sure what I would do from here? Bill brought up a great point for not trading Coburn. That's why Hexy makes the big bucks.

From Bill Meltzer:

* According to a Twitter post from Capgeek, the Flyers will have to absorb roughly $345K of bonus-related overages from the 2013-14 cap ceiling onto their 2014-15 cap. This is a relatively minor cap penalty, but every little bit matters. More significant estimated overage penalties for next season were incurred by the Boston Bruins (estimated at $4.75 millon), Detroit ($3 million) and the New Jersey Devils ($2.25 million). Come the 2015-16 season, the Flyers could have upward of $2 million worth of overage penalties applied to their cap figure depending on what their final cap-related spending is for the 2014-15 season and how much of Kimmo Timonen's bonuses are triggered in excess of the cap ceiling.

From Josh Rimer, who has a good track record with his inside info:

Dion Phaneuf - Leafs are trying to move him, and are getting some calls on him as well. The Sharks, Panthers and Hurricanes are the 3 teams I'm hearing that have interest in him. Keep hearing Eric Staal's name in there for a possible Phaneuf deal. If he's not moved by draft he'll remain a Leaf.

Vinny Lecavalier - Flyers are trying to move him as he doesn't fit in their future plans. Word on the street is he'd be willing to go to the Florida Panthers.

Evander Kane - the Winnipeg Jets once again are shopping Evander Kane. I can see him going to the Flyers in a deal for Brayden Schenn.

Who do you want from Fla for Vinny and who do you think we would realistically get for Vinny?

If Florida is willing to take his entire contract, they can give us a bag of used pucks in return.

I know they could sign Bobby Ryan next offseason and take care of the scoring winger but that seems like a good deal - Evander Kane scored 30 goals at 20 years old - I would love defense in a deal though, but we'll see what they do

yep to both of these. Kane to me is a slightly more polished Brayden Schenn that plays wing instead of center.

if they move Schenn for Kane though, I would keep Lecavalier as the 2C.

If they make that move, do you keep Scott Hartnell on the top line and play Evander Kane with Vinny?

I would for starters. Hartnell does more on the top line than we give him credit for I think. Long term though, I think Kane would be the answer. He can create the space hartnell can because he's physical, but he's faster and more talented than hartnell.
