I would for starters. Hartnell does more on the top line than we give him credit for I think. Long term though, I think Kane would be the answer. He can create the space hartnell can because he's physical, but he's faster and more talented than hartnell.

As I've posted before, if they draft a guy like Ivan Barbashev, eventually Evander Kane would be the number one winger and Ivan Barbashev as a possible second liner

If Alt isn't ready and no major moves are made, I wouldn't mind if the Flyers sniffed around at Nate Prosser from Minnesota to fill the 7th d-man spot. He's got good size at 6'2", 210lbs, can move the puck but won't put up many points, and is a right handed shot. He made $800k last year as Minn's 7th d-man although he played a lot due to injuries, and shouldn't be expecting a big raise.

I've said this before but I'd love to see them sign Zach Redmond from Winnipeg - he's only 25, he's A UFA and will come cheap - and he's got a lot of potential - he might be a nice surprise - he should be a player that gets to play every night but because of the depth in Winnipeg that's not the case

i'll admit to not having watched Winnipeg very closely, but if he can't crack the nightly lineup in Winnipeg, I have concerns about him cracking lineup every night in philly.

Age and potential lines up, so I'd be ok taking a chance on him, especially at a low cost, but there's definitely concern there to me.

Here's a blurb on Redmond from January:

Zach Redmond, D, 25
Redmond is another player who has earned a brief call-up to the NHL level this season, skating in three November games for the Jets and posting a minus-two. He was a healthy scratch in six other games. With the IceCaps, he has posted five goals and seven assists in 15 games.
Redmond is in a tricky spot, having proven seemingly all he can at the minor league level, but with Winnipeg’s blue line a crowded house, opportunities have been tough to come by. Another came along when the defenseman was recalled to Winnipeg on January 10th.
Redmond’s knock is that, while big (6’3, 205 pounds) he is not consistently physical. Despite that, he possesses good offensive instincts for a defenseman.

looking more at Winnipeg's roster.. I guess it's not that big of a knock if he can't crack Winnipeg's lineup.

enstrom
bogosian

stuart
trouba
clitsome
postma
ellerby
pardy

no knock to be behind the bold, and $$$-wise it's tough to take a couple of those other guys out

My point about Winnipeg is that they had Dustin Byfuglien, Zach Bogosian, Tobias Enstrom, Jacob Trouba, Mark Stuart, Paul Postma, Grant Clitsome and Keaton Ellerby - are you telling me that if he can't crack that lineup, there's an issue? That's a really good defense, a lot of depth there - sometimes players just don't get an opportunity because of the guys that are already there - maybe if they traded a guy like Dustin Byfuglien he would get an opportunity

EDIT: And yes I know Dustin Byfuglien would play forward too but regardless they have a lot of depth there

That's a lot of money for a guy who would be a 3rd pairing d-man on 28 other teams (that's a subtle jab at the Islanders...).

just further evidence of what the market for dmen is these days

But you gotta remember how desperate they are for a dman right now. I think they paid for what he would be worth to them not what he would be worth to the rest of the league. Besides, can't complain about a 2 year deal.

According to our favorite source Eklund ( lol), the Flyers are going after Zach Bogosian. Any guesses of what that will cost if true?

It's not true because it's Eklund, so just move on

Anyone in favor of a Michael Del Zotto reclamation project? Nashville isn't qualifying him
