Self-proclaimed Asshole
Wonder, in that scenario, if Tampa would take Mitch?
They need a 1b who can hit for power and Mitch would get the chance to play every day.

Another thought. What about signing melky Cabrera? He's a COF switch hitter that shouldn't have any problem hitting in rbia and could come at a bargain. He would possibly be a better alternative to Upton that wouldn't any trade pieces that could be used for price or shields.
No way, I have no faith in a mediocre player that suddenly got good right about the same time they got caught using PEDs
That said, I'd rather have CarGo and Andrus wouldn't need to be in that deal since they have Tulo
It would probably take an Olt + Perez/Buckel + Sardinas type package at least
Keep going. It would take more than that.

Kind of wonder why Cargo misses so many games.
Last 3 years:
Cargo 145, 127, 135 = 407
Hamilton 133, 121, 148 = 402
Career means squat until a player is on the HOF ballot. Only thing of value of an active player is the projection of what he will do next season, next week or the next at bat.
If im packaging Andrus. I want starting pitching first before a bat.
The Rangers tried to acquire Andrelton Simmons from the Braves so they could flip him to the Diamondbacks in a deal for Justin Upton. Arizona wants a young shortstop, but Texas is loath to give up Elvis Andrus or Jurickson Profar. Atlanta wouldn't budge, however.
Anyone read this??

Unless we sign Greinke.
Huh? All i said was he's had a decent career... Also i would like his bat..
Unless we sign Greinke.
Need more SP than just Greinke. He would be a good acquisition, but he's not the answer.
the only real answer would be Price, but its really not looking like he will be available so in my opinion Greinke is our best option to improve the rotation. He would be a solid option behind Darvish....I think the Rays will looking to trade Price next offseason, not this one because I think they will make one more go at the WS with Shields still on contract for one more year. I think they will pull off a trade for Upton which would improve their offense which is much needed.
Ok. We know the rangers are reportedly "very interested" in Greinke, as will be pretty much everybody. They expect to be serious contenders in the talks to land him. If you had to construct an offer for him what are you comfortable giving him?
I'll start by primarily examining what kind of value Greinke should bring and what he should be worth. It is conventionally accepted that 1 WAR is worth $4 million in value (read salary). Over the next few years with big tv contracts kicking in and teams having more money to spend I expect this to increase, but we'll stick with that for now.
In each season since 2008 Greinke has posted the following WAR.
08: 4.9 WAR
09: 9.3 WAR
10: 5.1 WAR
11: 4.0 WAR
12: 5.1 WAR
This tells me he's a pretty damn safe bet to post 5.0 WAR seasons at minimum with obvious CY Young potential any given year. I would be comfortable saying he'd outperform 5.0 WAR at least a couple times during a 5-6 year deal.
Some other numbers to consider:
(Stole this from someone who already did some legwork at bbtia)
1. Pitching at TBIA: 7 appearances, 2.83 ERA, .236 OBA, .267 OBP, .649 OPS, 1.04 WHIP
2. GB/FB (2012): 1.69
3. Pitching at night: 3.69 ERA (FIP in the low 3's), .257 OBA, .308 OBP, .711 OPS
4. 7th-9th inning: 3.70 ERA, .246 OBA, .294 OBP, .671 OPS
So all this considered, and considering Greinke is a pretty safe bet to post 5.0 WAR each season x $4m/WAR tells me I should be very very comfortable offering Greinke 20m/yr at minimum. Add to that the likelihood that he out performs that a couple times, seems to pitch well in rbia, produces ground balls at a very good rate, and has a very easy throwing motion that isn't likely to deteriorate his shoulder, and his age. I'm willing to give him a contract that looks something like this.
5 years with a 6th year option at 21-23m/yr average.
He should produce the value of his contract. We could offload the front of the contract a little bit for a year or two until FACE and Cruz come off the books. Face it guys. Pitching wins championships and Greinke is legit. A top 3 of Darvish/Greinke/Harrison would be among the best in the league.
