You guys should trade a young bat to the Mets for Johan. We'll eat half his salary, his contract is up at the end of the year, you guys need to win now. Do it, do it.

Which young bat do you have in mind? If its Profar forget about it. Not sure Santana is really an ace, but it is intriguing.

Nobody in particular, doesn't need to be a stud just a serviceable player. The way I figure it for the Mets is they are at least 2 years away from even being considered contenders so with the exception of a handful of young pitchers everybody is available, Dickey, Wright, and Johan with an expiring contract being the most valuable of that crop.

Do explain.

239 BA / .737 against lefties (and that's an improvement) for Moreland

268 BA / .828 against lefties for LaRoche

Mitch has a .232 career average versus lefties so his improvement I guess was all of .007 points as for as batting average goes. With only 46 AB's against lefties thats a pretty small sample to say he improved.

Johan is in the final year of his contract and I believe he's do $25 mill so the Mets would have to eat some contract to move him. They already bought out Bay so I don't think they're opposed to the idea of spending cash to clean house.

If you're in need of a ML ready speedy outfielder Texas has Borbon and Engel Beltre sitting in AAA.

No interest in johan hes not good anymore

Really? You've made that call after his first season back from surgery where he was dominant every season before?

I think he would be a good pick up. He hit 33 bombs and 100 rbi's this last year in Washington. It's no safeco, but its no rbia either. I would expect those numbers to get a slight bump at rbia. He'd give us a lefty bat to slot in the three hole we desperately need and power at 1b.

Assuming his health keeps up he's still solid. He's still got good stuff, keep in mind he had a no hitter this year. He got smacked around in 2 or 3 starts that killed his era but as the number 2/3 guy on a team like Texas he'd do just fine. Especially in a playoff series I'm willing to be he's better than most other teams 2/3 pitchers.

I have no idea if he's even being shopped, but for 1 year if the Mets covered a chunk of his salary I'd absolutely take a chance if I'm a contender. Or take a shot at a guy like Dickey. He probably won't duplicate last year but if nothing else he eats innings.

Is it worth a 31 y/o 1B at 13-14 million a year though,

cost is a factor, Its not just numbers

Philip Humber threw a perfect game for Chicago this year too. :dhd:

That said, if the cost wasn't too high and the mets would eat a chunk of his salary he'd be a good guy to add as a #3 to the rotation.

I'd pay 3 yrs at 13 mil for a gold glove 1b that hits 30 bombs and drives in 100 runs wouldn't you?

Not saying I wouldn't

But he's done all of those 1, 2, and 2 times in a 9 year career, with 1 of each happening last year in his age 31 season

Maybe but he's hit at least 25 bombs and 85 rbi's in 5 of 7 full seasons. I would think rbia would only help his numbers.

So 25 and 85 with solid defense is worth 13-14 million a year?

If that was his best year? No. I'm not as worried about a couple more million a year as much as I am the number of years though. With LaRoche hitting in front of Beltre in RBIA his average numbers should be better than at Washington.
