in your opinion all this is true. i'm at least willing to wait until the end of ST to make a final decision on him

I'll base my opinion on...

1) His career, never been that impressed to begin with, but he's always had a place... that's opinion though

and

2) His 2012 season... This is fact, he was horrible

An entire season wasn't enough for you to make your judgement?

1) 6 200+ hit seasons is reasonably impressive with BA's of .306, .313, .331, .314, .315 & .338 during those seasons.

2) yeap, you're right compared to his previous 9 seasons it was his worst.

romeo, different subject: do you think we trade Holland this off-season? and if we did, do you think that one of the Toronto catchers might be the target? Personally, i wouldn't might a Toronto package build around A.J. Jimenez, he reminds me of Pudge, if we did trade Holland

You said it yourself, reasonably impressive, that doesn't really stand out in the end

20 years from now, he will be spoken of in the same breath as a Carney Lansford is today... and most people today would say, "Who?"

Not just WAR. Look at his GIDP rates, walk rates, and OBP, slugging percentage, ops. All atrocious.

He's not a part of TEX' 2014 plan ... so unless he's going to put up a +3.5WAR in 2013 there is no place for him on the 2013 bench ... let alone the roster.

With that perspective ... I don't see a reason for him to be in camp let alone a final decision to be made at the end of ST.

Clearly I want to see him gone some way. Will that happen? Probably not ... but on the facts of his recent performance capacity and his capacity to meet a need in 2013 ... he should be gone.

i know your opinion on how to use him and that would be to sit him on the end of the bench and we both know that isn't going to happen as long as Wash is the manager. we need to recognize that and be relieved that we might see him in only 100-120 games and only as a DH.

In a previous post you stated that Nolan Ryan said MY would have a reduced roll next year so obviously the decision on Young's playing time will be handled differently next year. His playing time and roll hasn't been defined yet and it doesn't sound like that will be entirely left up to Wash so putting a number on games played might be a waste of time since he may indeed get his butt glued to some pine.

Team Player Value -- Batters
http://www.sportshoopla.com/forums/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=2451231

Not only did MY have the lowest WAR (-2.4) than every other position player ... every single pitcher on the TEX roster in 2012 had a better WAR (batter) than MY. Only Matt Harrison had a -WAR value.

When MY DH'd ... TEX would have been better served had the pitchers batted instead.

While that's a compelling statement to make, it's not totally accurate. WAR is cumulative, so given enough at bats I'm sure the pitchers would have ran up worse WAR totals than MY did. Also, WAR takes into account fielding as well. Baseball reference lists MY's offensive WAR (oWar) as -1.0, so his hitting and baserunning only cost this team one win. Still not a mark in his favor, but you can't seriously say we'd be better off letting the pitchers hit. You can, however, jokingly say it all day long.

i believe if you look at it the other way that probably means he doesn't get on the field as 1B, 2B, SS or 3B and only as a DH which is the way it sounded during the interview. i know you especially are hoping it means that he might get maybe 100-150 AB's which works out to approximately 25-35 games with him sitting on the bench for the rest of the season but as i said earlier as long as Wash is the manager he will use MY as his primary DH which means 100-120 games

it is easy for a fan to say let this clown walk but it is not your 16M that it would cost the owners to do that. even a billionaire is not going to write off that much money.

MY will have a role with this team in 2013 even if we don't like it. it will be a reduced role, probably meaning that he sees no on-field time but i think you will see him as the primary DH for the 2013 season and then he will be gone.

Which is why wash needs to be fired.

As Romeo said ... it's sunk cost. You are going to pay it whether he plays or not ... so might as well let someone you are paying the minimum play instead of him at least that is an investment for the future. Unlikely an Olt is going to have a -2.4WAR for the season DHing and splitting time at 1b and 3b.

TEX paid Rodriguez $10mil a year through 2010 (up to the instant Feliz K'd him in the ALCS) ... so what's the difference? Young on the roster isn't any more productive for his salary than Rodriguez was those years either.

At the end of the year MY is gone ... so might as well not waste time and let him get a year jump on finding another job.

It's business.
