Johnny Manziel - QB - Aggies

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said he sees similarities between Texas A&M redshirt sophomore QB Johnny Manziel and former Tigers quarterback Cam Newton.

"I would say probably those two are probably two of the best that ever played the game in college football," said Malzahn. Malzahn, who was Newton's offensive coordinator, has been studying Manziel all week in anticipation of Saturday's Auburn-Texas A&M game. "We only got to see Cam Newton for one year, but this guy, he's in the same element," Malzahn said. "They're different but they're still some of the best to ever play."

Marqise Lee - WR - Trojans

USC junior WR Marqise Lee will miss the remainder of the game against Notre Dame with a left knee sprain.

This is the same injury that Lee has been dealing with for the last few weeks. He caught two passes for 18 yards before leaving. Lee might deal with the same injury questions that former teammate Robert Woods did, although Lee's injury hasn't required surgery.

Mike Evans - WR - Aggies

Texas A&M redshirt sophomore WR Mike Evans caught 11 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns in the school's 45-41 loss to Auburn.

Evans' ability to go up and get targets at the catch point in contested situations is not fair. Add in his long stride speed, and Evans can win at multiple levels of the field. He is exactly what the NFL is looking for.

Johnny Manziel - QB - Aggies

Texas A&M redshirt sophomore QB Johnny Manziel completed 28 of 38 attempts for 454 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions in a 45-41 loss to Auburn.

Manziel added 48 rushing yards and a score on the ground, but also injured his right arm on a run. It was tough to tell if the injury occurred to his elbow or shoulder, but Manziel was sidelined for a bit before returning. The last drive showed some deficiencies in the pocket, in terms of dropping his eyes and sacking himself, but Manziel has enough arm to win from the pocket and will make his mark on improvisational skill.

Jeremy Gallon - WR - Wolverines

Michigan senior WR Jeremy Gallon caught 14 passes for 369 yards and two touchdowns in the school's 63-47 win over Indiana.

Gallon reminds us of Golden Tate. The short but stout receiver loves to leave his feet at the catch point in contested situations, playing much bigger than his listed height, but also separates with quickness. We expect him to be a hot name throughout the all star game process.

Unfortunate, one of my fav players in 2015 class:

Stefon Diggs - WR - Terrapins

Updating a previous item, Maryland sophomore OW Stefon Diggs suffered a fractured fibula during Saturday's game against Wake Forest and will undergo surgery.

Diggs caught eight passes for 67 yards before leaving the game. It is obviously a major injury, but Diggs should have plenty of time to recover before next season, the first year he will be draft-eligible.

This kid is going to be a very good back in the league IMO - A very very good back:

Melvin Gordon - RB - Badgers

Wisconsin redshirt sophomore RB Melvin Gordon rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries in the school's 56-32 win over Illinois.

This is why we rank him the top draft-eligible running back at the position. Gordon is such a smooth runner with great long speed and balance on contact. His lack of pass protection reps could hold him back during the draft process, however.

Derek Carr - QB - Bulldogs

Fresno State senior QB Derek Carr completed 33 of 48 attempts for 412 yards and four touchdowns in the team's 38-17 win over UNLV.

Carr connected with Davante Adams on all four scores. Carr has a quick motion, strong arm, and is able to throw from multiple platforms. The Bulldogs use this to their advantage on passes near the line of scrimmage, but we would like to see them let Carr test vertically more often.

Marcus Mariota - QB - Ducks

One NFC North scout believes it is too soon "to make sweeping assertions" about Oregon redshirt sophomore Marcus Mariota's potential as a franchise QB.

"He is athletic and does have some arm talent, but we haven't seen enough of him to determine if he can make big-time throws in a pro offense," the scout added. "I need to see more of him before I'm convinced he's an upper-echelon guy." This is proof that Mariota doesn't get enough credit for winning in the pocket. He is poised and decisive despite many former Oregon passers not possessing this trait. One vice president of player personnel for an NFC team called Mariota "the real deal," and another NFC South scout seemed to agree with that statement.

Eric Ebron - TE - Tar Heels

NFL.com's Bucky Brooks believes UNC junior Eric Ebron could be the next great TE.

"With Ebron flashing some of the same traits that have made (Jimmy) Graham and (Antonio) Gates dominant pass catchers in league where athleticism is valued at the tight end position, the North Carolina standout could emerge as the top tight end in the 2014 or 2015 draft class," brooks writes. Ebron has always big a physical mismatch, but he is more consistent at the catch point this season.

Miami will not appeal the new sanctions imposed by the NCAA.

Miami "cooperated fully with investigators and took responsibility for its actions by proactively self-imposing severe penalties," the school stated in a release. The football team lost nine scholarships over the next three seasons.

Marcus Mariota - QB - Ducks

Scouts Inc.'s Todd McShay now lists Oregon redshirt sophomore Marcus Mariota as the class' No. 1 QB and No. 2 overall prospect.

McShay previously ranked Mariota at No. 22. "He has a very quick release and good arm strength, elite speed as a runner and he has shown significant improvement so far this season with his accuracy," McShay writes. "He's still raw, but his potential is through the roof." There is a legitimate case for Mariota being the No. 1 pick in May since he wins from the pocket and when stretching defenses with his feet.

Marcus Mariota - QB - Ducks

CBS Sports' Pete Prisco passes along word that Oregon redshirt sophomore QB Marcus Mariota's one concern is accuracy, according to "some scouts."

The box scores back this up, as he completed 44, 50, 57.1, and 59.3 percent of his throws in four games this season. The lowest of those games pitted Oregon against Cal in a torrential downpour. Mariota has completed a higher percentage of his passes against top competition, and his placement against Washington was excellent at every level of the field. We aren't worrying too much about these accuracy questions.

Sick is going to have a fit! But I like him...he seems to have what it takes to be a RayMac type of end in our scheme:

Timmy Jernigan - DL - Seminoles

Florida State senior DT Timmy Jernigan ranks as Todd McShay's No. 7 overall prospect.

"He is the anchor of a very talented FSU defensive front, and they were dominant against the Tigers," McShay writes. "He is a classic 3-technique with a quick first step and the ability to consistently penetrate and disrupt, change directions and pursue plays outside the tackle box." Notre Dame's Louis Nix III ranks over Jernigan, but they project to two different techniques in the NFL.

Stephon Tuitt - DL - Fighting Irish

ESPN's Mel Kiper moved Notre Dame junior DL Stephon Tuitt up from No. 14 overall to No. 9.

Tuitt is "looking a lot more explosive now as he recovers from offseason surgery," Kiper writes. "There are moments where I see a young Richard Seymour, with great quickness for his size. When he is right, he offers tremendous burst and the ability to work inside or outside and create pressure." Kiper adds he could see Tuitt as an end in both a three or four man front. There's no doubting Tuitt played well against USC, but we have been disappointed with his season as a whole. He looks lethargic.

Teddy Bridgewater - QB - Cardinals

USF head coach Willie Taggart compared Louisville junior QB Teddy Bridgewater to Andrew Luck.

"He's the real deal," Taggart said. "Teddy is a special kid. He reminds me a lot of the way Andrew Luck was as a college player. He's very smart. He runs the entire offense. He can get his guys in and out of good and bad plays. He throws the deep ball very well." Louisville lost to UCF last week, ending Bridgewater's chances at the Heisman and eliminating Louisville from national title contention. Bridgewater will be picked apart, but we are thoroughly impressed.

Derek Carr - QB - Bulldogs

Former Eagles scout John Middlekauff would be "shocked" if Fresno State senior QB Derek Carr is not a top-10 selection in May.

Middlekauff believes Carr has the "best pure passing arm" in the class and adds David's younger brother will rise from January to May. Carr will almost certainly be invited to the Senior Bowl, which will put him on an even playing field with other top senior passers. We like that he is not falling away from pressure as much as last season, but Carr isn't traditional from a footwork standpoint.

Lamarcus Joyner - DB - Seminoles

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher called senior CB Lamarcus Joyner "short; he's not little. There's a difference."

We love that Fisher is separating the two, since many take short for small. Joyner has moved to cornerback this season from his safety spot, and we are certain he will make a name for himself in nickel packages at the next level. That is not a negative, since NFL teams line up in nickel more often than any other defensive package.
