Taylor Lewan - T - Wolverines

ESPN's Mel Kiper advises viewers of Saturday night's Michigan-Notre Dame game to focus on line play.

Specifically Notre Dame's superlative defensive line against a Michigan O-line anchored by future multimillionaire senior T Taylor Lewan. As Kiper points out, Lewan very likely would have been a first-round pick had he entered the 2013 NFL draft. But he's going to have his hands full on Saturday against a Notre Dame unit that features Kiper's No. 3 (DT Louis Nix III) and No. 11 (DE Stephon Tuitt) overall prospects on the Big Board. Lewan ranks eighth-overall on that list and should jockey for position all season with fellow tackles Jake Matthews (Texas A&M) and Cyrus Kouandjio (Alabama).

If this kid here is not the first RB off the board in the 2015 draft, then there must be another Adrian Peterson clone in that year's class that I don't know about:

Duke Johnson - RB - Hurricanes

Miami sophomore RB Duke Johnson has six rushes of 50 or more yards over the last two seasons, tops amongst active FBS players.

Johnson (5-foot-9, 196 pounds) confronts one of the biggest tests he'll be administered all year on Saturday against Florida. The ACC's offensive freshman of the year in 2012 struggled against elite competition last season, despite his gaudy overall statistics, producing merely 68 total rushing yards in three games against BCS teams. The Gators ranked No. 4 in rush defense last season. It's a spotlight matchup that could go a long way toward improving Johnson's draft stock.

He's an underrated player:

Zach Mettenberger - QB - Tigers

Since November 2012, LSU senior QB Zach Mettenberger has thrown for at least 250 yards in four of six games.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound signal caller from Georgia barely cracked that threshold on Saturday, but was nonetheless impressive against Gary Patterson's defense, raining down 251 yards and a TD on 16 of 32 completions in a 37-27 win over the Frogs. Mettenberger will likely have to have a huge first half against UAB this weekend to have a shot at cracking 250 passing yards, as an early blowout will likely mean Les Miles sends his second-stringers onto the field en mass at some point in the second half.

Insteresting, I thought he was a pretty good RB in high school. Though is still think that safety is his best position:

Karlos Williams - RB - Seminoles

Florida State junior DB Karlos Williams has been moved to RB.

We can't tell if this is a permanent change or just due to injuries at the position, but Williams apparently welcomed the challenge. Junior RB James Wilder left last Monday's contest against Pitt with a shoulder injury and could be limited in this weekend's game against Miami. Fellow junior Devonta Freeman could see the most touches.

Aaron Murray - QB - Bulldogs

Georgia, with senior Aaron Murray as the school's starting quarterback, is 1-9 against top 15 teams.

That includes a 1-6 record against top 10 teams. "I’m not worried," Murray said of the record. "I don’t. Everyone’s going to focus on Aaron’s record versus top opponents, but we know it’s a team game and that’s all that matters." Quarterbacks more praise and more criticism than any other position, but this isn't totally on Murray. We do think there is some kind of correlation to how much pressure/pass rush Murray feels and his success in those games, however.

I know a lot of people here like him, I think that he is the most overrated player in all college football:

A.J. McCarron - QB - Crimson Tide

NFL.com's Bucky Brooks dropped Alabama senior QB A.J. McCarron from No. 3 to No. 13 in his newest rankings of college quarterbacks.

McCarron completed only 10 of 23 attempts for 110 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Alabama's victory against Virginia Tech. "McCarron was determined to prove to the naysayers that he could function as a playmaker in a pro-style offense," Brooks wrote. "He failed miserably in that regard during a disappointing debut performance ... Of course, some of McCarron's issues could be placed on the leaky offensive line and receivers unable to get off the physical jams from the Hokies' tenacious cornerbacks. However, a franchise quarterback should be able to put the offense on his back when things aren't going well."

Donte Moncrief - WR - Rebels

ESPN's Mel Kiper dropped Ole Miss junior WR Donte Moncrief from the No. 9 prospect overall to No. 19 following his week one performance against Vanderbilt.

Moncrief only managed five receptions for 56 yards against Vandy, but we think it is a bit early to drastically change rankings. "He was really frustrated in the game against Vandy, but credit the Commodores and Andre Hal," Kiper writes. "Moncrief has the look of a down-the-field threat who can use his size and good feel and body position to beat defenders for the ball, but he can also really chop his feet, cut and make people miss underneath. Hits his stride quickly for such a big player." The Rebel is now the No. 3 receiver on Kiper's big board.

Devin Gardner - QB - Wolverines

Michigan head coach Brady Hoke said Texas A&M redshirt sophomore QB Johnny Manziel would probably
play behind junior QB Devin Gardner if they were on the same team.

While appearing on the Dan Patrick show, Hoke played through the scenario of what he would do with Manziel on his roster. Obviously Hoke is going to stand up for Gardner, but we wouldn't be shocked if the Wolverines' quarterback becomes a better pro than Manziel. Gardner has some development to do in the pocket, but the flashes are there.

Hold on... #9 prospect overall??? Kipe didn't even have him on his top-50 list before the season started! And he had juniors on there.

Agreed about AJ being overrated BINGO, but I must say there are two backs who can challenge to be drafted ahead of Duke. TJ Yeldon and Todd Gurley. But all three are incredible

I found Mel Kiper's top 50 big board from May, and there's no Moncrief. But somehow, with no football going on, he went to not even a top 50 guy (and some people didn't even have him in their top 100's) to the #9 prospect overall???

I'm really pissed off and disappointed right now because I was hoping people were overlooking Moncrief & he was a diamond in the rough. Now that Kipe has him in the top 20, nobody's going to overlook him. :mad2:

Jadeveon Clowney - DL - Gamecocks

Scouts Inc.'s Kevin Weidl counted six pressures on South Carolina junior DE Jadeveon Clowney's 20 pass rushing attempts against Georgia.

A pressure is counted as a "hit on the quarterback, forcing a quick throw or making the quarterback move off the spot," according to Weidl. Clowney also had one sack and one pass deflection during the contest. The pass rusher was double teamed five times, according to Weidl, and Georgia ran a quick play on seven other occasions. Clowney is getting beat up by large media outlets, but we still believe he is impacting opposing offenses on multiple levels.

Marqise Lee - WR - Trojans

NFL.com's Dan Greenspan believes USC coach Lane Kiffin's "self-destructive" offensive philosophy has rendered junior WR Marqise Lee "ineffective and little."

Greenspan's colleague Daniel Jeremiah tweeted during Saturday's ugly 10-7 loss to Washington State that "USC's offense is painful to watch," because "they don't throw the ball more than five yards down the field" despite possessing "two studs" at both WR and TE. Greenspan's column argues that USC's offensive strategy is simultaneously destroying Kiffin's coaching career and "neutering" Lee's ability. Kiffin is the type of arrogant leader that elicits charged, hyperbolic rhetoric from the media, and that's precisely what is happening here. You can argue with the logic of forcing elite skill-position players to remain near the line of scrimmage after the ball has been snapped, but Kiffin would likely fire back that he doesn't currently have a QB who can effectively throw down the field. This is a chicken-or-the-egg debate that's likely to end in Kiffin wiping yolk off his face as he clears out his office at some point in 2013.

Telvin Smith - LB - Seminoles

Florida State senior LB Telvin Smith totaled eight tackles, two going for a loss, in the school's season opener against Pittsburgh.

Smith is finally starting after playing a sub-package role in previous seasons. We aren't sure why he has been limited, since few have the closing burst of Smith. His lean frame isn't desirable, but Smith can gash through lanes and make plays in the backfield while showing impressive toughness on contact from his front side. He does need to improve his ability to work over lateral blocks when flowing form the back side.

He did look like sh8 against Michigan:

Stephon Tuitt - DL - Fighting Irish

Draft insider Tony Pauline believes Notre Dame DL Stephon Tuitt has "no place as a potential top 25 prospect."

These are strong words from Pauline, and even though we tend to stay away from the terms "overrated" and "underrated," Tuitt likely fits in the former. Tuitt looks heavier in his movements from the defensive end spot in the Irish's three man front, which is important since he was never an overly athletic player. However, his strength on contact doesn't appear to be improved, so the added 20 pounds might be wasted. Tuitt "looked un-athletic, marginally explosive and was constantly on the ground" against Michigan, per Pauline.

Malcolm Mitchell - WR - Bulldogs

Georgia junior WR Malcolm Mitchell underwent knee surgery on Tuesday and is expected to make a full recovery prior to the 2014 season.

That season will almost certainly be in Athens, but some mentioned Mitchell as a possible earl entree into May's draft prior to the season. Beat writers stated Mitchell had the best camp of any receiver on the team, so hopefully he retains that explosion next year.

Braxton Miller - QB - Buckeyes

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer is "fairly optimistic" junior QB Braxton Miller will play against Cal.

"Today, he threw a little bit and moved around," Meyer said about Miller. "He’s going to practice in a limited capacity today. His arm is fine. It’s just, can he move and all that? I’ll know more of that after today’s practice." Miller suffered an MCL sprain against San Diego State and likely could have returned if the score was tighter. Senior Kenny Guiton filled in admirably for Miller but sustained a bone bruise himself.
