Brockers was just my best guess for my annual bust pick. I pick one every year regardless. He had a great game against the Niners, but he hasn't exactly had an amazing season

He had a high ankle sprain suffered in the final preseason game. He took the field Sept. 30 at home versus Seattle and tweaked the same ankle but missed only a series or two.

Since then, his playing time and impact have increased steadily. He recorded his first sack Oct. 21 versus Green Bay and had 1½ sacks in the first game against San Francisco. He followed that by posting six tackles in the Rams’ 31-17 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Against Buffalo he was like a Demi God playing against men. You must have an extremely high standard for DTs. Let alone a rookie DT.

I'd love to get Austin, Patterson, or Allen out of this draft!

+1

Especially in the 30s.

I like Allen, but I'm not in love with him. I like Patterson and Austin a lot more. Those guys would unstoppable on our squad.

I didn't watch the Bills-Rams game, so I'm gonna have to take your word for it.

Well, I guess that pick isn't looking very good at this point. At least Cam regressed...

As a CB or a FS? Or either?

As a corner without a doubt. He has superb instinct for the corner position. It's been well documented that he is a student of the game and has the short area quickness and mental part of the game one needs to be a great NFL cornerback. He lacks top end speed and that is his biggest flaw. If an opposing team plans well and get a favorable one-on-one matchup (Chris Givens per se), he may get toast in trying to run with a much faster/quicker player on one-one-one without safety help up top. You see how Tarrell Brown is always on an island and is the player responsible to be on an island (not sure if that's by design: but a role like that for Amerson would scare me. Not saying he wouldn't be able to take on that task, I just know it wouldn't be a successful outcome as consistent as we see from T. Brown).

He's not an elite tackler either, which is why I am backing up from the idea of drafting him and then transition him to safety "immediately". That would be a role to consider down the line like 2-3 years removed from the corner position a la Antrel Rolle. Chris Culliver is a boderline elite tackler; not a hitter like Dashon who is both an elite tackler/hitter, but Culliver is a fine agressive tackler who would do well as a safety. Culliver wouldn't put fear in WRs hearts like Dashon, because Culliver is not a hitter. However, Culliver would not missed many tackles if he were positioned in the back end of our defense. But before even considering moving Culliver too, I would look forward to drafting someone like Tyrann Mathieu first to play safety for us. Despite the fact that Cully being the worse cover corner on our team. I would keep him there. He would be a special team ace, and a solid safety for us.

Amerson is too much of a special talent (keen nose for the ball) that you cannot disregard that. He has an amazing vertical (ex basketball player) and wins most jump balls (elite ball skills). As I stated earlier he also posses great short area quickness which is somewhat more important then top end speed for a conerback to have. Taking all that into consideration I think our coaches are smart enough to utilize his strength (plays that requires him to be in zone coverages more so than anything else...) and put him in situation that would make him or give one the perception that he is an elite corner in the NFL. If he ends up on a team that loves to run the cover two, I'd say that they got themselves a steal since that would be the ideal system for him to play in.

With the way we are getting at QBs so easily, that would make like 10x more easier for him and allow him to gamble and use his instincts to make plays on the ball. He is an extremely smart corner and he would certainly take advantage of our tenacious pass rush and use the QBs "lack of time" to his advantage. Trust me...he'd be an excellent fit for us when taking all this into consideration.

So the most interesting prospect in the entire draft for me is Cornelius Carradine. Probably would've been a top 20 pick, now could be there at the end of the first.

What do you guys think of him? Do you think he's a 10-sack kind of pass-rushing talent? If you had to pick a pass-rusher in the NFL to whom he compares, who would it be?

Call me paranoid, but one of my worries is that he's a Florida State DE. I had the same worry about Everette Brown. I'm just not a huge fan of FSU DEs.

Note, I think the Niners should be looking for a SITUATIONAL pass rusher. Maybe a guy who can line up at DE while McDonald moves to NT on passing downs. Or even let Brooks take a break and blitz him from the left side at OLB. I'd much rather get a dominant big guy on the DL (I was hoping that big guy would maybe be Louis Nix :() , but a situational pass-rusher would be great too IMO.

I like his closing speed, but I'm not sure he has that Mingo-like first step. Very good play recognition, good hand useage. Not sure he's much of a bull-rusher. Gonna be very interested to see his strength & broad-jump numbers at the combine.

I think I'm fully on board on the Kawann Short train in the 1st round.

This big deal being made (and rightfully so) about Justin Smith not playing verifies (one of) our biggest problem(s). W might not even have Ricky Jean ad Sop next season. Today with Francious starting for Smith leaves us evn more unproven at nt depth.

Short is a Fangio type of nt, he can get to the qb, as well as stop the run, freakish speed (for his size), as well as elite strength (need to confirm at the combine).

He's versatile enough to play anywhere along our d line as a rookie for quality depth, possibly taking over the starting nt spot, depending on free agency.

He's ending the season weighing 315.

I've also confirmed to myself that the Niners need to draft Le'veon Bell in the 3rd-4th range.

He would come right in and be the 3rd down back. There is a good chance that Hunter will no longer be a Niner if a pick like this is made.

Achilles tear is a rough injury for a rb to comeback from. I'm not sure if they have time for him to not be 100 percent next season, then on top of that James has been looking very good, with the same skillset as Hunter.

Not sure I agree with that. I like Bell as player, but I don't see the team bailing on Hunter. Even if they add another RB.

One player I'm really excited to see at the Senior Bowl is Jordan Hill. I saw him play a bunch the last few years, and at times he just took over games. You don't see that a lot from the DT position. I feel like he could really tear up the 1v1s.

I'm not sure if he'd fit our system, but he's just so disruptive. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up.

Its hard for me to see too. Its just that I was checking out the cap situation for next season and started feeling like everyone is a potential casualty.

I like Hunter, I just don't see the point of having him and James? They both basically do the zone running, James with more speed, quickness and hands out of the backfield, Hunter with a year more of experience, as well as some decent numbers.

I don't think it would be cool to go into next season with Gore having to get beat up on 3rd and 2, or down and goal from the 3 yard line. Jacobs didn't work out and Dixon isn't going to ever take over for Gore, we need to find Gore's replacement.

If you like Shae McClellan last year than you should like Cornelius this year. I did not like McClellan at all, but he is living up to his draft status IMO though (his production doesn't show it but you see flashes). As a 3-4 rush linebacker, I'd take a pass on Cornelius b/c he lacks that explosiveness off the LOS and I don't see enough agility for him to bend around the corner with ease to without losing speed to get to the QB. However, I like his instincts and his motor.

Everyone needs to keep a lookout for Brandon Coleman (WR, Rutgers). If he declares he could change the order of WRs and even the first round. He's a guy that A LOT of teams are going to love in terms of potential - 6-6, 220 lbs., 4.4 speed. He averaged over 32 YPC last year and this year he's at 17 YPC with 10 TDs.

He's crazy long with a big catch radius, runs really well for a guy his size, decent routes, can really stretch the field. He's raw though and has questionable ball skills for a guy his size. He's a RS Soph so there's a chance he'll declare and he's a guy a bunch of people are talking about now.

Here's a glimpse of his game:
