Who you guys got?

I'm going with the Royals and Rangers

D'OH but that was one hell of a weird game! Still don't get why they didn't take the players off the field

@SlinkyRedfoot remember how I told you that the Cards were built for the marathon and not the sprint and that they were doomed? Remember how I told you John Lackey was not an ace? You should listen to me more often; I'm smart!
Actually its the opposite. They just won the sprint in June and their arms fell off in September

But yeah, its pretty painfully apparent they had no shot in a 7 game series vs any of the contenders

McHugh? Fuck no.

It's amazing you raved this guy but then bash lackey? You looked at their stats?

Wacha? There's a reason he went game 3 lol. Tanaka? This isn't off potential. Cueto? This isn't off their careers.

Also gonna hope the list isn't in order lol

So, you would rank Lackey somewhere around 13th on this list? That sounds about right, actually. And, no, they are not in order at all. Slinky can do that for us tomorrow when he's done with his research.

Nope not at all. Was just pointing out some of your ludicrous suggestions. Realistically Lackey is about 5th. But anyways, its about him being the game 1 for the CARDS, he was by far their best option.

Some of these guys have better stuff but right now? Lackey has a proven track record in the post season, had a great year and game 1 was at home where he shines. Sorry but he was a great game 1 option.

And again, you bag on him while you were the one tooting the horn of McHugh as a game 1 starter. Doesn't add up.

This comes across as though you have contempt for people who would like to know what they're talking about. While not surprising, that certainly amuses me.

McHugh did last year what Lackey did this year. Check the stats for yourself. He's also 28 and has some upside for the future. And, again, that list was merely a group of nominees from playoff teams. How do you rank them? I'd love to see.

Bottom line: Lackey was the worst #1 starter among all playoff teams & the Cards were a pretender this year.

Make with the list, Slinky. Nobody is buying your faux social life as an excuse.

It's true, you did say that the Cards were built for the marathon. Of course, that's not what I took exception to, that was you moving the goalpost after you were taken behind the shed on the actual discussion, which was that the Cardinals were fucked because they were going with John Lackey to start game 1.

So you took it upon yourself to shift the debate to ranking the post season pitchers, and even went so far as to invent a point for me in which I said I'd take Lackey over Kershaw. That's how you roll. When you're losing, you try to change the game.

With Jake Arrietta and the way he pitched in September, I expected the Cubs to win the series, so the fact that they did hardly proves you right. I said they weren't fucked because they were going with Lackey in game 1. Considering he pitched 7 1/3 innings of 2-hit shutout ball and notched the Cardinals only win, this whole thing should have been over then. But no, here you are to change the game and declare yourself the winner. Good job.

Social life? That's some funny shit. I've got a wife, a business, and two kids, 4 and 6 years old. I have no social life at all.

Congrats to the Stros for getting that far with one pitcher

Its the only reason I wanted to avoid that team in a one game playoff

Let's go over it together, shall we? How many of these guys would you take over John Lackey?

1. Kershaw
2. Greinke
3. DeGrom
4. Syndergaard
5. Harvey
6. Arrieta
7. Lester
8. Price
9. Tanaka
10. Pineda
11. Hamels
12. Cueto
13. Cole
14. Kuechel
15. McHugh
16. Wacha
17. Liriano

I might be missing some, but I think that's a decent list. What is your answer?

Not that this had anything to do with our debate, but it's interesting anyway.

In 2015, I'd probably rank Lackey 8th among these pitchers. His ERA ranked 10th, and he pitched the 6th most innings.

Heading into the postseason, there's more to consider and it's more speculative. Performance down the stretch, postseason experience, post season success, and whatnot would all come into play.

Greinke, Lester, Hamels, Lackey and Wacha all have postseason experience and success. The rest of the group is either untested in October, or tested and found to be in varying degrees wanting.

Lackey was pretty dominant down the stretch and ranked 4th among these guys in September ERA. I know for sure that heading into the 2015 postseason,

Considering pitchers' 2015 numbers, Sept numbers and postseason experience/success, I would have taken Arrieta, Kershaw and Greinke ahead of Lackey hands down. I would have taken Lackey ahead of Tanaka, McHugh, Liriano, Pineda, Cueto and Wacha hands down. I think a discussion could be had between Lackey and any of the other eight pitchers on your list and there would be some tough decisions.

So without really putting any more thought into it, heading into the 2015 postseason I guess I would rank Lackey somewhere between 4th and 12th, but 4th seems to high and 12th too low for me. Ultimately I think I'd put him between 8th and 10th.

I can live with that. And that is why he was a horrible "ace" for the so-called "best team in baseball". That was where the Wainwright loss stung the most.

And, I feel like you were harassing me over calling the Cards doomed by reminding me that they won 100 games, but I don't feel like looking it up. I'm just glad the Cards are out.
