He needs to start slicing and dropping it more. Nadal is playing sooo far back.
I don't think that's something you can start doing down a break in the fifth. That seems like a recipe for disaster.

I think he needs to mix something up. Nadal clearly has the momentum, especially if he gets out of this game.

Nadal hold serve after a couple of incredible forehands.

Nadal hits his Terminator shots to go up 2-0 in the 5th. :(

Fuck. Tennis is hard core on the psyche. All those little moments that just slip away.

That is what I'm talking about. Great slice by Fed followed by a powerful backhand. Followed by a Serve and Volley.

Mixing it up is what needed to happen.

Harrumph. So many little chances for Federer sliding away. Just like always vs Nadal.

WOW

What a game. This match has been a lot more entertaining for me as of late.

Fed is back on Serve.

I forgot. These dunces don't play a fifth set tie-breaker. Tennis has THE best overtime in sports, and these dunces don't employ it.

Thats the feeling I got after listening to his speech. I was hoping it was just me reading more into it, but you are confirming my thoughts. There is a maybe a possibility he plays 1 more and then retires. It does not sound like he will wait 5 months to play the French next year.

At least he got his 18th before then.

I don't care which player you prefer more, both of these guys are class acts.

Here's Roger Federer, who played his 100th Australian Open match tonight, accepting his winner's trophy:

"I would also like to congratulate Rafa on an amazing comeback. I don't think either one of us believed we would be in the Australian Open final when we saw each other four or five months ago. … Tennis is a tough sport, and there are no draws, but if I could have had one, it would have been tonight."

Here's Nadal in his trophy ceremony speech:

"Congrats to Roger. Just amazing the way he's playing after such a long time off the tour. … It's always going to be memorable for me here in Melbourne. … I fought a lot for the two weeks, but Roger probably deserved a little more than me today."
