Thomas was already signed through 2014 on his rookie deal. Top safeties have been around the $8M range/season. This deal exceeds that

Damn good player

The safeties make that system run. Not that Sherman is bad, because obviously he isn't, but Earl makes that defense possible. Kid covers ground like crazy

As @RapSheet said, four years, $40 million with $27m+ gtd for Thomas. That's in NEW $ in addition to the $4.725m he's owed this year.

That is what they just tweeted.

They say that Sherm isn't too far behind. The core of the LOB will be locked up for the near future which was the offseason priority and JSPC didn't disappoint. Another great offseason!

That's a pretty fair contract for both sides.

But considering Sherman will likely make 13 million a year that's a lot of dough to have in the backfield so that will be something to keep an eye out for if it's too much money to have tied up.

The cap increasing will help though.

Lock up Sherman and Wilson and we've got a nice core to work with for several years!

Worth it. Now it's time to focus on Sherm and Russ.

Can't do anything about Russle until next season, correct? If so, then next season's salary cap increase will help.

Anyhow, very good news today. :suds:

Sweet! 10 mill a year sounds a little steep, but you know with price tags going up, up up every year, in a year or two it's going sound just fine.

I'm sure they are banking on that. The forecast for increase the next two years is projected to be quite high. If they reach the $140/m mark that some are saying for next year I'm sure they will have the room to do something for Wilson. They have also projected it could top $150/m the year after. Of course projections are not guarantees, but still this seems like the right time to take that risk and lock up some quality players BEFORE it actually does raise and the base salaries on new contracts rises with it.

Great deal. It's amazing to think that $10M per just obliterated the top contract for a safety, yet it still feels like he's being underpaid. He's that good. I expect that it won't be long before Sherman agrees to a new deal as well.

Good signing. In 2 years he wont even be the highest paid safety but probably still the best.
