i know the history of the game....i know every name brought up

i just wanted to say that because i would go with match-up problems by taking my boy dirk first

this conversation implies that i would be picking my whole team and i would build around dirk......

I have no problem with that. Dirk is indescribable. I went to a Dallas @ Lakers game and had a good seat that night. (pic attached - who am I sitting three rows behind, bitches???) Watching a dude truly 7' tall move that quick and shoot 3s with a release so fast you can't blink without missing it is worth every cent of that $400 ticket. You could build a hybrid team with Magic at point and have a true 7-footer running the break with Worthy. Who could stop that? With your center playing outside the 3-point arc, you'd virtually nullify the effect of a Shaq or Hakeem (true center) in the half-court. Interesting...

Interesting choice. I'd love to see the rest of your starting five.

Most people will just name a bunch of superstars, but I firmly believe you can't win without role players. Too many ball dominant shooter types does not make for a good mix or team.

Exactly, which is why Rodman doesn't bother me too much, though I certainly wouldn't start a team around him, he'd be my 5th choice. The Worm was no doubt responsible for many Bad Boyz wins. At his peak he was a factor every night.

Ewing, Hakeem, or Shaq??

Patrick Ewing was one of the most over-rated centers ever, as much as I like that turnaround that was lights out. I think 100/100 basketball experts would put Patrick a distant third on that list and 75/100 would put Shaq #1.

Opinions?

A big fat no in my opinion to Tracy McGrady and AI. :2cents:

You guys realize that in this thread we are largely ignoring the one player who was the most dominant basketball player in the history of the game right?

Zeke

As long as be was t coaching.

Long on heart, short on talent compared to the other greats. You'd take Zeke over Magic? You know you wouldn't.

Out of those 3. I would go Shaq easy one, Hakeem, then Ewing.

I think Shaq is easily best center ever. Jabbar is right there. Wilt is hard to say bc the competition is in question (still did amazing things though dont get me wrong)

But back to Ewing he was great an all but was missing something others had. Is it just me or was he slow(not too quick)??

Easier when you're a foot taller than the next tallest guy. But I think he would have been a monster today, too, and I would definitely consider taking him as my first guy.

Kareem maybe, too.

You forget he had some epic battles with Bill Russell, another player we're not giving enough respect to in this thread. Pippen keeps getting mentioned but not Bill Russell. Absurd.

Great point. Bill Russell was a monster, too. Better than Rodman on defense in my opinion. Although I do give Rodman a lot of credit. I don't really feel like there's that many "great" defensive bigs in the league right now. Ben Wallace and the Pistons was probably the last time I watched a game just to see guys get swatted in the paint.

I just thought of someone we haven't mentioned who is without a doubt one of the 10 best pro basketball players ever. Any guesses?

Jerry West

Very good guess but now who I was thinking of. Jerry West would probably be the third-best player in the league today behind Bron-Bron and Kobe. What do you think?

Tough to say. Durant pretty good.

It is hard to compare how players back then would play now-a-days, times have changed soo much.

What position does he play?? Your top 10 player?

I'll give his height. 6' 6"

I bet you'll get it from that. Was, without a doubt, the best player of his generation.
