Goff isn't bad, he's in the tier of Stafford, Purdy, and Stroud, all playoff ,QBs and all have decent weapons, not so great ( with the exception of SF, and that brings up how good is Purdy ) but decent all around.
You haven't watched the playoff game if you think they are the same tier. Stafford is better.

Yes you all got a win in the playoffs. That’s great

He's already got as many TDs in the playoffs this year as he did in 3 games in the 2019 playoffs and Super Bowl run.

Sign him!! And pass the kool aid
They should sign Goff cause that system works well for him. Maybe McVey's system was too complicated for Goff but perfect for Stafford. It was a good trade for both teams.

I don’t see how they would be hurting themselves at the $42-$44 million mark. The cap is going to go up and there are already 8 QB’s making more than he would be making.

In year 2 or 3 he may be lucky to be in the top 12 paid QB’s in the NFL. With his current stats, that is a bargain. It also wouldn’t be hard to unload him at that number.

The Lions will hand him a contract extension this off-season. The new money will be way closer to $50M than $40M annually. Probably over $50m annually in new money but just a touch over. Something like 4 year $210 on top of the 1 year $31 he is currently under would be my guess.

Russell Wilson’s contract 2 years ago is a bar they have to get over I would think.

His age isn't relevant. You said "It also wouldn’t be hard to unload him at that number". The Broncos thought they could offload Wilson at the number they signed him to. They can't because his play is far below his salary and the contract structure means he'll be guaranteed for 2 years before the 3rd year of his contract season begins. If Goff deteriorates it could be an even larger gap between salary and true value because Goff's playing floor is exceptionally low. The Lions might not be wrong to pay Goff but they'd be wrong to pay him and have long guarantees.
Age is relevant in comparing the two situations, as you are less likely to see deterioration at a younger age, but percentage of cap space is the biggest factor.

Ideally (according to SB winners over the past 10-12 years) you want your QB to be below 16% of your total cap space. If they get Goff at less than $45 million a year, he almost certainly would be near or below that threshold over the average of his contract ($45 million puts him at 18%, but the cap amount is going up).

For the stats Goff gives you, that’s an easy contract extension amount for Detroit. They would have a QB with top 10 stats, at the price somewhere in the 12-15 QB. Maybe he will deteriorate like you said, but he has been one of the most consistent QB’s over the past 7 years, so I’m not sure why he would fall apart now.

The problem many teams are facing is they pay their elite QB 20% or more of their cap space, which makes it prohibitive to keep veteran players. So they have to rely on young players from the draft (KC is feeling it this year). Detroit shouldn’t have that problem if they keep Goff under that percentage threshold, and he still continues to put up very good numbers.

Well, what about his performance didn't you like? You're being quite critical of him and keep saying how a Super Bowl run in 2019 is all the proof you need.

Again, his numbers from Sunday. What did he do that wasn't impressive to you?

Lol look at you tard on repeat.

His playoff history is his playoff history bud. Nothing we can do about it.

Show me where I was critical of his game on Sunday. He managed the game well overall but when pressured he folded. That’s what Goff does.

Ha ha. So 2019 will forever be the measuring stick of Jared Goff? (Which I believe was his 2nd season in the NFL)

You have been nothing but critical of Goff. He played a GREAT game on Sunday. How did he fold when pressured? Please give me some stats instead of your eye test and neighbor's opinion who happens to be a Lions fan.

That’s not a bad deal for a top 10 QB. It’s actually quite cap friendly. $42 million per year will give them a lot of cap flexibility.

That would make him the #9 highest paid QB, and certainly out of the top 10 paid QB’s within a year or two.
Not for 5 years though. No way. Especially not without Johnsons offense.

5 years wouldn't matter as his last year wouldn't be worth much. If he continues putting up excellent stats in 5 years, he's a bargain. If not, you get rid of him and start a rebuild under a new QB. He will be 30 moving into next season.

He currently has the #2 passing yards in the NFL, and #4 in TD's. He has had multiple 4500 yard passing seasons in his career between two teams, and has an excellent completion percentage and int percentage, along with great TD numbers. He has been a VERY solid QB, and I think can be argued that he has had great stats much of his career.

He's not an elite QB, but is definite far from an average QB. Easily top 10 right now. If they sign him to $42-$45 million, he will be about $10-$15 million per season below the top 5 QB's in a year or two (about 20-25% cheaper), he would currently be the #9 paid QB with that new contract. That's enough space to keep high end players on your roster, and enough space to sign a nice FA or two. Detroit would have a salary cap advantage over several teams that don't have QB's under a rookie contract.

Pats are going to be the Lions franchise was for decades going forward. They will suck beyond the telling of it. They will get a great QB this year but will still suck. There coaching will be shit and drag them to depths they have not seen since the late 60s / early 70s.

In case you're wondering where $42-$45 million would put Goff, here are the top salaries for QB's in the NFL right now. Trevor Lawerence will enter the top 3 pretty soon too.
