if they get Erod back what does the rotation look like you think?

Skubal, Erod, Olson, Maeda, Mize?

thats pretty good- especially if Mize can get healthy and realize some of his potential.

Right now Guardians look like Bieber, McKenzie, Williams, Bibee, Allen- which I think is best in the division by a fair amount- but I think its better than 50/50 Bieber is dealt- which is why I was a little surprised they dealt Quintrell. Cantillo and Espino are interesting choices if they are ready though.
To me it’d be ERod Mize Skubal Maeda Manning.

Gipson-Long and Olson in Toledo. But I like Manning, so that’s just me.

Twins make playoffs and finally have some pitching and then bye bye Gray. This organization is a joke

I saw that.

I was a little surprised when they dealt for Barlow- but happy because I thought this team needed a solid veteran setup man. I wonder now if they traded for him to be the closer.

Obviously the only way they deal Clase is if they get a really good package- but I would be open to it. I have full faith the Guardians can find a closer between all the good arms they have in their system.

If they can turn Clase into a really nice package I think they have to consider it.

The more I look at things, the more it looks like they are likely to take a step back this year - even though they have brought up a ton of talent the last 2 years- they still have a lot of good young players in the farm system

Manzardo, DeLateuer both crushed it in the AFL and are both very highly regarded. Valera and Rocchio have had the shine wear off a little bit both both are very highly regarded. Espino and Cantillo are both major league ready SP- Espino will be a stud if he can get healthy.

I dream of a rotation of McKenzie, Williams, Espino, Allen and Bibee- that would be a great, stable, and cheap for years to come.

they certainly moved on from Civale at the right time. If they deal Bieber and Clase they will take a step back short term, but this team has the building blocks to really come together in the next couple years into something special if they make the right moves right now.

I guess the question is- do you go for it now- with a good but not great team- or- do you flip the last couple remaining really solid trade assets, and try and build something really impressive for the mid-long term.

Hader was better last year- but long term- especially with age- I would rather have Clase- and Clase is going to make 40 million over the next 5 years.

Getting an elite closer like that for cheap for a big market team would be incredibly valuable.

Id trade him to Philly in a package that included Painter in a second.

its not a coincidence that over the last 10 years only 3 teams- the Astros, Yanks and Dodgers have a better winning % than the Guardians.

The front office knows their stuff.

If anyone remembers- they got Clase for Corey Kluber- a deal where just about everyone nationally said they were fleeced at the time- my college buddies outside of Cleveland (who are as big of baseball fans as me) ridiculued the deal.

Kluber pitched like 8 innings for the Rangers and Clase became one of the premier closers in the game.

If they could flip him and turn it into a top level SP and OF prospect they really like- it would be hard to say no.

I will say- I just Oscar Gonzalez was picked up off waivers since the Guardians did not have room on the 40 man roster to protect him.

If I was to be critical of the Guardians on one thing- it would DEFINITELY be the fact that they never addressed the 40 man roster squeeze.

They had a ton of good prospects that have been brought up and performed- Kwan, Gimenez, Williams, Allen, Bibee, Clase, Bo Naylor--- and still have a ton of good prospects in the minors

they never made a trade to consolidate some of these prospects- and have lost some pretty valuable assets to the waiver wire or in pressured trades- Quintrell, Nolan Jones, Will Benson, Owen Miller, Quintrell.

They should have made a deal a year or two ago to consolidate some of these prospects into major league talent- while with how Bo Naylor has performed- I get not making the move for Sean Murphy---- but they should have gotten an outfielder or something.

Instead they have lost some pretty valuable talent to the 40 man roster crunch- i get not wanting to trade a guy that can blow up into something special- but at some point you gotta address this issue.

They did get a good guy for Nolan Jones- I will say that- and i kinda like the catcher they got for Quintrell- but Jones has really gotten better- and so has Wil Benson- they both would look good in CF and Rf right now.

its time to either make some deals and go for it- or go into a short term re-tooling and give room for guys like Valera, Manzardo, DeLatuer, Rocchio, Freeman, Arias, etc. to get major league at bats.

I know DeLateur is not ready quite yet- and he is prob. their best hitting guy- even over Manzardo- but this in-between strategy is not helping.

Why would Philly trade Painter for a closer? That’s ridiculous. You’re not getting a top 25-30 prospect for Clase. If Painter goes (and that’s highly unlikely) he would go in deal for like a Sosa level player.

I don't see them getting E Rod back. Olson up with team with Gipson first one up to get some more work since you don't know how much of his success was teams seeing him for the first time.

I do think Harris will swing for the Mega Japanese prospect and that was some of his motivation for signing Maeda but obviously deteoit doesn't have that pull

because he is hurt and they are trying to win now and have no closer

Your guy is not the only option and Thompson has always closed by committee playing matchups anyway. I could see maybe the number 4 guy like Abel. Painter should be untouchable.

even if there is not a sure fire #1 guy- the extra bonus money should hopefully help cement a strong draft class.

first time the franchise has ever had the #1 overall pick.

bummer for Tigers- but I dont mind Erod getting out of the AL Central.

Central was not exactly robust- and now Gray and Erod are out of it.

Plus Guardians should be getting back McKenzie, and - we shall see about Bieber...not a bad swing when your 2 biggest rivals in the division lose out on 2 very good SP.

He didn’t get as big of a raise as I’d assumed.

With the saving from him leaving and Miggy finally being done, they’ve got a lot of cash to throw around.
