yah. 210 at bats isnt much of a sample size. Julien looked like a monster his first 200 or so at bats and then nose-dived the rest of the year. Gotta do it for more than a third of a year. Bohm looked like a freaking monster at hitting in a similar sample size his rookie year and had just as good a pedigree his rookie year and has tanked hard since then.

Julien had a OPS of .828 in September

If thats nose diving, the Guardians basically need a new team

Its not a straight line sample size though.

He hit last year in his 50 Abs before being hurt.

He immediately came up this year when eligible in May and hit...like quite literally first AB. He got hurt and sat a month plus. Returned and immediately hit again. He then sat two weeks and came back for the playoffs and immediately hit then.

All while also raking in any AAA stint over the same time period.

Injuries are the concern. But hes simply fucking good

And idk what Ramirez used to being top 5 in MVP has anything to do with right now. Right now he clearly not the same player and hes aging even if he is still good. If a GM was told that for next year they have to have Royce or Jose Ramirez, 30/30 are taking Royce.
50 abs is a week and a half man.

50 abs is a week and a half man.

It was 12 games.

And yeah, the point was explained.

He has quite literally never not hit. Does not matter the stint. Does not matter the lay off. He comes back into the lineup and hits. It hasnt been some straight line of 200 ABs.

This division is pretty shit/unproven. Its Royce or Witt with arguments for Robert.

We aint crowning Royce over goddamn Ohtani over here. The options in this divison are limited adn again Ramirez is very clearly while still good in a decline.

Actually finished with a identical OPS+ to a guy Wiggy just claimed "nosedived"

OK.

Nobody aside from a Twins fan is going to take any of that seriously.

Lewis has a .273 average in the minors. Over 1550 at bats.

.307 in the majors. In 280 at bats.

But sample size doesn’t matter.

Yeah Royce at 19 years old in 2018 is the same as Royce at 24 in 2023

What the fuck lmao

Bryce Harper had an OPS of sub .700 at 19 years old. Why the fuck did he even make the show???

24 year olds hitting well in the minors isn’t all that impressive.

I am curious now though

When ranking players in the AL Central

How much lower do you have Spencer Torkelson than Donovan Solano?

Not that I don’t think Lewis has a helluva career ahead of him. I do.

But I also remember Chris Shelton’s first couple months. And the rest of his career.

Akil Baddoo more recently

granted....neither were a top pick

@Stakesarehigh I would say Torkelson owns just as good a claim since he appears to be one of the better power hitters in the AL.

Next year who are the guys that I think will be better sluggers in the AL than Torkelson? Judge, Yordan, maybe Devers, Ohtani if he stays in the AL (which I think he is almost a lock for the Dodgers), Seagar, Julio.

All we are saying is that 250 at bats is barely anything in the majors- and to put him over a guy like Ramirez who still went almost 25/25 this year in a lineup that was in turmoil and gave up at the trade deadline is a pretty bold thing to say.

If I were a betting man- I would say there is a much better chance Jose is at the All Star game than Lewis next year- it is not impossible Lewis is better, but its going pretty far out on a limb. I would bet on Torkelson more than Lewis to make the All Star game- especially if the Tigers get some help in the lineup. In August Torkelson had 9 homers and 11 rbis which is disgusting.

I love what Tork did down the stretch. 16 homers in 200 at bats and nearly as importantly averaged a walk about every 8 at bats. He needs to cut down on the strikeouts.

But yea...raw power he should be a top 10 HR guy.

@mr.hockey4242 I would like to know what you think Lewis' stat line will look like next year just so we have something for posterity.

My guess for Ramirez- in what I think will be an improved offense- is .285/.360./860 with 31 homers, 27 steals.

My guess for Torkelson - in what Ithink will be a bolstered offense is .252/.330/.885 with 39 homers

If he can hit .260 he’ll be dangerous.

Needs to work on knowing his range at first. Great hands, but goes too far from the bag. Tough to kinda be forced into learning a new spot in the majors.

since that July 20th date we spoke of he was:

190 at bats, 7 hr, 35 r, 21 rbis, 1 sb, .221 avg 45bbs, 5 doubles, 740 ops

Gimenez

231 at bats, 7 hrs, 34 runs, 25 rbis, 15 sb .255 avg. 12 bbs, 13 doubles 716 ops

the split tool on fangraphs just gave that for standard stats.

WAR Gimenez won by a fair amount.

I do have to say- I think Gimenez breaks WAR a little bit. WAR is obviously not perfect--- but fielding bible had him as the 2nd best overall fielder in all of MLB behind Tatis Jr.- and the other big fielding site- Baseball Referece i looked at yesterday had him 2nd as well (to Gabriel Moreno).

Do I really think Gimenez was worth 5.3 WAR like ESPN said? that seems inflated. FanGraphs WAR of 3.6 is probably a lot closer to reality. ESPN uses Baseball Reference's WAR.

Fangraphs had Julien at 2.8 and ESPN at 2.6--- ESPN def. factors defense in a little more strongly.

Baseball Reference and FanGraphs are def. 2 of the most, if not the most respected sites for that.
