Had to grit your teeth when Mac never made even a simple push to knock the guy out of bounds. 64 yard pick six just looked really bad.
About the 0:40 mark.

Slay came back inside Mac. I agree, could have been more effort though.

Good game Pats. Too many mistakes at the wrong time cost the game. After getting whipped in the opening minutes, team showed they can compete. That was good enough for me.

I’ve decided I’m not giving the Pats any more moral victories. They should’ve won this game. I’m confused about not kicking field goals and winning but maybe BB is concerned about the rookie kicker. It doesn’t get easier. They were in position to win and didn’t.

My take:

Team offense struggled in 1st quarter with rookies and rain.
Overall, I thought the O-line did pretty good.
The D had a lot of great moments and outplayed in a few.
Players that did not practice, did not play but they'll be back.
Some vets looked rusty but upped their game.
Rookies on O-line were in over their heads in 1st quarter but responded.
There were a lot of dropped balls early (in the rain)
Mac had a good game. Balls were missed that should be caught. Improved as game went on.
Overall, I'm satisfied with the effort against a SB contender in 1st game, in the rain.

I think they can only get better. I thought Bourne had a really good game and the defence played well.

Poor timing on penalties which never happen at a good time.
Bourne had some key drops early but came back from it.
Same for Dougllass and Ju Ju. We'll be better!

Yeah that was a bummer, they came back and had several opportunities to win but came up short. The way D was playing, a couple of FGs would have been enough to get the W.

It seems the Rookies are to blame??? Boutte not tapping his foot, BB not trusting the K he signed to the team? Yet Mac threw a pick 6 and Zeke fumbled deep in our territory.

The blame can spread pretty evenly on the offense. I am upset with Boutte, because he knew that he didn't get his foot down on the 3rd and 8 earlier and then doing the exact same thing with 20 seconds to go. I realize that it's new and ten time the pressure, but if this is something that he cannot somehow figure out, he becomes useless on the sideline.

It's very simple practice routine. Throw passes right on the sideline and make the WRs catch balls with two feet on the edge. Move back one step, then two, then three. Continue to throw the passes down the sideline, then a little bit further out of bounds until the WR refuses not to put both feet down in bounds. Do it thirty or forty times and it becomes a habit. I did for my kids from Pop Warner through HS. It's as if it becomes an auto response memory.

The first almost catch by Boutte he should have gotten his foot down. It was fast but I think he should have. Second one… no way he had time to get his foot down in bounds. He tried and was shoved in the back out of bounds. I don’t put any blame on that one.

This too is what I saw, but didn't want to open that can of worms

Agree, was about to say that. He was pushed out, no way to get 2nd foot in bounds on the second one. The first, well he’s a rookie and will learn to do it.

That pick 6 was awful, 70 yard INT return. Also, iirc the Pats were moving the ball on that drive.

A few other notes:
1). Hunter Henry had a great game and one sweet catch. He did drop that 3rd down ball but he wasn’t going anywhere if he did.

2). We all complain about bad calls. Gonzalez definitely hooked and slightly pulled that WR on the last 4th down play. We got away with one.

That one hand catch by Henry was great. Good to see TEs doing stuff out there. Gonzalez had a pretty good game, he took out Brown most of the game.

Rookies played really well. Think they said like 10 rookies got playing time and overall did well. White had an awesome game.

Very un-BB like to not go for the FGs.

Penalties and a terrible start beat NE. I was pleasantly surprised by the over all performance against the reigning NFC champs.

Oline, patched together actually played well against a good front 7.

I feel better about this team and after the loss.

Let's go win a division game.
it was a five point lead so two scores were needed. That field goal would not have changed that. Sure tea leaves would have told him to take the points then wait for the fumble, but the real world called.
