Love this stuff. I don't know about you LSD, but I tend to have baseball heroes based on players where I see some of myself in their approach. The Chicago White Sox are going to have a really good bullpen. One of the key pieces to their success is Evan Marshall who they expect to have a good year.
I only posted this because the pitcher I admire most on the entire roster is Marshall. Not because he's the most talented - LOL, far from that. But I just admire a guy who earlier in his career bounced around a number of teams, put up some horrific stats in those years, then pretty much signed by the Sox almost as an afterthought. And yet he has been one of the most consistent performers since he joined the club in '19. I remember him having a fairly bad stretch for a few weeks in mid-'19, wondering if he was going to revert back to his pre-Sox performances. But he then bounced back and finished that season with some clutch pitching, and has been Mr. Consistency ever since. His stuff definitely can't be described as electric or 'must-see'. Yet he simply goes out time after time and gets the job done. I think with the additions of Crochet and Kopech this season, his role as the set up guy to the set up guy might be a bit diminished. But I feel we'll still be able to count on him a great deal whenever his number is called.
Oh wow, didn't hear about this until your post. Too bad, RIP Marvin. And yeah no doubt, one of the greatest, if not THE greatest 3 round bout in boxing history.
The only very small saving grace is that unless the Sox intended on going with 9 in the pen to start the season, there was little chance of Jimmy making the cut. Then again, he would have likely been the first call up if/when needed, so that saving grace is indeed quite tiny.
