Jax starting request for Yannick is a first rounder but seems to be it.

Let's retain the perspective that the salary cap for 2020 is a touch over $198M. This means a $3M cap number is only 1.51% of the team's cap. Hard to understand why that would be a troubling number, especially for a guy coming off a pretty decent season who should be a situationally important player.

I really feel like everyone else looks at our DL situation in a completely different light than I do.

Mayowa on his own is not big deal. It's more that it means even a less likely chance of us bringing back Clowney.

Yeah, I understand. I guess my point is if a $3M 1 year signing sabotages our opportunity to sign Clowney, then we have incompetent people managing our cap. Does anyone think Schneider is incompetent?? Maybe all this time shut indoors has people overreacting more than usual.

It's partly the 3 million cap hit. It's also the roster spot. We are only going to keep so many lineman.

I'm not overreacting in the least bit. I'm well aware that we have lots of time and there are still a lot of ways that things can go.

But every day makes me feel less optimistic.

NFLTR under cap space has us at 11.3

Overthecap has us at 14

I'm not very computer smart on how to post links and memes.
Yes overthecap is just under 15 million, but you can look and see the 2 latest signings are not included. The other site doesn't list contracts and is impossible to know how up to date it is.

Safe to say they're somewhere in the middle.

I don't think so. Appears NFLTR includes Mayowa contract but not Irvings. OTC includes neither. The actual figure is most likely about 8 million in cap space, maybe less.

I have a feeling the FO still has some cuts coming up but at least they're not in KC cap hell.

Yep... I've got to think that Cuts and/or restructuring of contracts are on the horizon...

Agreed. I still believe they'll add an edge rusher whether Cloney resigns or through a trade.

I would be very happy if we signed Griffin... Mayowa, Irvings and Griffin would be great additions to the DL... 23 sacks among the 3 of them... Green and Collier will only improve as well... It's not Clowney or bust imo...

I'm good with Griffin and comes at a lower cost. Which ever one of the 3 options they have I'm good with but one of them has to happen.

I thought a few days ago that we would end up signing both Griffen and Clowney. Mayowa is sort of the replacement for Griffen in that scenario though probably a bit cheaper. At this point, with Reed re-signed and Irvin & Mayowa added, it's probably going to be either 1) cap re-shuffling and sign Clowney or 2) not much cap re-shuffling and sign Griffen.

Yeah... It's definitely going to be tougher for the Titans to sign him because they're apparently going to work on a long-term extension with Henry... If that's the case, they would have a lot of money locked up with Tann/Henry making it more difficult to sign Clowney... Unless it's just a 1yr contract...

Ive moved on from clowney myself, it looks like that first pick will be our pass rusher, wouldnt be surprised to see us trade up a little bit too.

2020 is pretty much summed up like this... If we don't improve our defense, it doesn't matter...

This is true. On the bright side a lot of players had injuries or down year last season and at least a few will rebound I would think.

Personally I'd be surprised if they bring Clowney back, even if it's just on a one year deal for a number of reasons. (1) They'd have to work some magic to create $17m-$20m in cap space. (2) They signed Mayowa and Irvin. (3) They know if Clowney walks, they likely get a 3rd round comp pick. (4) If Clowney is looking for a 1-year "prove it" deal, he might be better off joining a team where he won't be double teamed every snap.

I worry about the Seahawks pass rush in 2020 because if Clowney isn't brought back or if we don't sign Everson Griffen, I think our pass rush will be worse than it was in 2019.

I don't think OTC includes the amount that teams need to put aside for draft picks and the money teams put aside for other transactions. Could be wrong on that one though.
