It’s true tho!

Alberto is a better fielder than odor, better hitter......I think his average was close to .300 and he barely strikes out and he could play 3 out of the 4 infield positions.

way better player than odor and we just gave up on him.

Who isn't better than Odor in your 'opinion?'

This from CBS writer R.J. Anderson on ranking the top 50 rookies for 2020........And please note how Solak's lack of D is duely noted.......He is also the only Ranger in the top 50.

47. Nick Solak, INF, Rangers

The Rangers acquired Nick Solak in July from the Rays, who had shopped him around due to his perceived defensive limitations. One source familiar with the Rays' internal evaluation said the club felt he was a "double-negative" defender at the keystone -- meaning well-below average. A scout from another team agreed with that assessment, but Solak is regarded as a hard worker and it's possible he improves enough to be playable there for a time. Regardless of Solak's defense, he can hit and he can run. He has a simple swing and a discerning approach at the dish, a combination that should allow him to pitch in across the board. (He is going to strike out a fair amount just by virtue of working deep counts so often.) Solak didn't run much in the majors, but he stole 21 bases as recently as 2018 and posted a sprint speed in the 85th percentile. Heading forward, he's a candidate for at least 10-plus thefts. Solak's landing spot on the diamond will dictate his overall value, but there's ample reason to believe he could be the Rangers' everyday second baseman in 2020 -- and that he's at the onset of what's likely to be a lengthy big-league career.

I think I'd trust the industry scouting consensus on him versus some Rays fan.

Maybe we can move him to left if he's that fast. Willie is atrocious in the field.

But then you have Choo taking up DH for another year.

Too many problems.

My bad.

I wish that were true but if Solak was above average in the field, he'd be penciled in as an everyday starter and we wouldn't be hearing Donaldson rumors. In his short time with the Rangers, he displayed hands of stone in the field.

"A total of 90 players have been issued qualifying offers since the QO system was introduced during the 2012-13 offseason, and Odorizzi and Abreu become the seventh and eighth players to accept the one-year pact."

It is very rare, as has been discussed on here before. I would imagine that even with those 8 players who have accepted it over the last 8 years, that in almost all of the cases the teams giving out the offers were not surprised that they were accepted.

He would be penciled in in most cases, but he is not in our situation because of the contract extension that JD gave Odor. It is not his defense that is keeping him out of the starting job at 2B.

I say work on something else. I know it will or better not cost us much so no biggie but we seem to keep kicking the tires on players like this which is up in years and DL stints and have not pitched well in years. Which is different than Minor and Lynn.

JD acts like a man with one foot nailed to the ground. Find a direction and stay with it. One minute he's all in and then back to Volquez. Wait till Scotty and Crawler hears this.

smith would’ve accepted if none gave him Kimbrel money. His agent played it perfectly.

granted this was a much weaker rp market than last year
