So here's my question. Now that Patrick has a migraine problem and hasn't quite lived up to the hype, he's toast and we're moving on from him. Yet, we have Morin, who people still seem to be dying to see. And people are concerned about losing him to waivers. So we've given up on the 21 year old with 61 points in 145 NHL games, but we still have high hopes for the 24 year old with 8 NHL games?

That's not meant as a knock on Morin. Let's pump the brakes on Patrick being a bust, wasted pick, useless NHL player. He's still very young and has potential to be a good top 9 player. Let's just hope they get this migraine thing figured out.
Not saying it was a wasted pick but as i posted, these stories would be more concerning to me if he was a good player. One other thing is you dont pick a player in the number 2 spot and hope that he turns into a good top 9 player. Oh and another thing at this point in their respective careers Morin is more valuable to us than Patrick is right now

Provorov-Sanheim

Hagg-Niskanen
Morin-Myers (playing 8 dmen today, European teams do that..)

For this afternoon's game (2pm). This looks like the roster for opening night to me. Stewart and Pitlick are the scratches. And I guess Morin/Myers looking like the scratches on D.

Lindblom on the second line is interesting

Lol. I'm not taking the bait on that one. Morin is only more valuable because Patrick's health is in question.

Yep. I'm fine with that, but I think there's better balance if they switch JvR/Lindblom. Mostly because I think Laughton/Farabee could use Lindblom's play driving ability and Hayes/Voracek don't necessarily need it.

100% correct so IF Patrick ever gets healthy he may be more valuable but until then Morin is worth more to us than Patrick.

Ill agree i think that switching Lindblom and JVR would be better as Farabee and Laughton are way to fast to have JVR slowing them down.

Hayes/Voracek seem kind of tailor made for JvR as linemates. Guys that are going to cycle the crap out you and get the puck to the front of the net. Just set JvR up there and let them do the work. I think that'd be a great line.

The fact that Chris Stewart made this team is truly mind boggling to me, I know he won't play much but why waste that spot?

AV did this with the Rangers. He kept playing Tanner Glass over better young players and it drove the Rags fans nuts. One of many reason for his downfall in NY

Well he's got a good team with a lot of good young talent. If he wasted it in year one then I will know he was a bad hire. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but knowing Mike Yeo is also making decisions scares the shit out of me.

Well I don't see needing to sign Stewart so maybe not a huge problem lol.

There was a quote from AV this morning that basically said "Stewart's been a professional, but we don't have the space for him'. So it looks like he's probably not going to get a contract, certainly not any time soon. Meltzer has been talking the past few days about just leaving Stewart on his PTO indefinitely. He doesn't count against the cap and can't' play in games, but he could still practice with the team and hang around in case of emergency and they need to sign him to a real contract.

Flyers also didn't put anyone on waivers today. So it seems likely that the Flyers will send Myers to the AHL (at least on paper) to get under the cap. Unless they go the LTIR route with Patrick and Welinski.

They really only need to get to:

1. Whenever Pitlick can play. AV seems to be targeting the first home game (10/9). Then Pitlick can dress and they can send Twarynski down.

2. Whenever Welinski is healthy, so they can send him down.

Then there really isn't the cap pressure that there is right now.

Maybe the thinking is that 5-10 NHL minutes are not that great for the development of a young player compared to the 15-20 AHL minutes that they could be getting. Might as well waste those minutes on a known product like Stewart???
