I think Santana can play multiple positions well including 3B I just don't think he can play any of them well enough to be an everyday starter at any of them. he is the ultimate superutility player that can cover multiple areas
Why do you feel that way after such a very small sample size?

Guzman and Odor has had all the time they need to prove themselves but hopefully they improve in the off season. If not, we need to look for a 1B and hope Solak is taking over 2B. 3B is anyone's guess at this point. IMO DDJ and Choo are no longer needed in the OF. Calhoun Santana and Gallo are a good fit. Gallo can back up CF and Mazara in RF/dh
Haha, I certainly wasn't including Odor in that category any longer.

Prior to this year, no one thought he was a good enough hitter to play even 4 or 5 times a week. He has proven folks wrong before when given the opportunity.

A guy like Santana as a utility guy subbing all around the diamond or fill in due to injury to me would be every much as valuable as a regular 3B. I brought up CF as I think he has good speed, arm and bat. Plus it does protect Gallo who could handle.

A lot of uncertainty re the rest. Who we trade and keep will be interesting.

Solak needs to be in the lineup but I kind of doubt Odor is moved. If you can’t strike gold on young talent every once in a while you will never get anywhere. The kid is a good batter. If we have Odor batting 8 then chances are the rest of the lineup is good

Just think it would be nice to have guys play their natural position as a whole. Rangers have tried to fit players into unnatural roles and it has resulted in this year in poor defense.

Speaking of changes which need to be made in the off-season.....How bout bagging this worthless nit-wit.
Would not be surprised if they extend Minor. Crazy play last night

This is really how baseball players fans and loyalty should be and once was before free agency made most players mercenaries. Makes you wonder how it will go for Elvis. If he stays, evolves etc

Changing positions has worked really well for Gallo, Desmond, Young, Teixeira, Odubel Herrera, Napoli, and many many others.

He is too valuable to not start almost every day. We have very few really good hitters at this level. We are not in position to underutilize any hitter.

Santana, Calhoun, Solak, Gallo and Elvis look to be our only good and dependable hitters besides Choo and there is no future for Choo. I know Elvis has struggled over the second half, but he has proven to be dependable before. Mazara may or may not ever move forward. Those five guys I mentioned above have to play every day somewhere for us.

I think he's a good hitter I just am not sure he is up to being a everyday starting player.

Looking forward to following the progress of Terry, Bahr, and Evans next year. Evans should probably be up here before too long.

Technically Mazara has inched forward every season, unfortunately he has not leapt forward at any point either

So what he has done this year as an everyday player hasn't impressed you? Which of our hitters impress you more and how long did it take them to impress you?

reverse the question: why do you feel the way you do after such a small sample size?
I am not convinced he can play there. You ARE convinced he can't. I see nothing wrong with finding out by giving him a real chance. You think 10 games proves he can't for some reason and that puzzles me. You aren't alone though.

he hasn't been a full-time starter at any position he spent time at 3B, SS, 2B, 1B and the outfield with plenty of days between them. and he seemed to run out of steam toward the end

He has been an every day player for a big part of the season even if he has played different positions. He has done very well playing every day.

i'm for giving everyone a chance and i'm not basing anything on 10 games. you are the one who seems to be willing to gamble on him with no contingency plan if he can't handle it for a season.

Of course I want him to play regularly I just think as a utility guy or CF suits him better. But not talking just that position-1B and 3B he looked awkward and I would guess stats would bear it out. His speed and arm play out better at other positions.

Main point is we need good bats and defense. FWIW I think despite Gallo versatility, RF is his natural position

Over his last 40 AB he has hit .300 and slugged .575. I wish we had a lineup full of guys with so little steam.
