Where do you plan on getting one and how many bodies you willing to trade to get one, that's a very rare species in todays game. They tried that route and look where it got them, a depleted farm system and a catcher who couldn't frame pitches. :L
Agree 100% about catchers being a rare species in todays game. So many think a good catcher is like Pudge. Wrong. Pudge was not a good catcher but a great catcher. We have to remember that greatness is not often found at that position but good catchers can be found usually with a high price tag. If ya want a catcher of greatness, time is not on our side. I suppose we all have ideas of what is good and that's OK but don't confuse it with greatness and you won't be as disappointed. (IMO)

3 out of 4 is pretty good so I will continue to watch this team. The last thing I wanted to see was Santana traded, condor called back up, then we would probably be subjected to

7) odor
8) condor
9) Mathis

Shoot me now man. For half of a season we would see 3 strikeouts in a row almost automatically. I wasn’t going to stick around for that garbage.
Sometimes someone has to point out the diamond in the pile of pony manure. Out of starting MLB 2Bs Odor is currently 6th overall in RBI, and 9th in HRs. Last 30 games he is batting .280 (this is good news and probably why he is getting everyday at bats)
He's batting .345 with an OPS of 1.231 with RISP. That's this season.

Factor in his time on the IL to this. Not saying the dude is not stinking up the joint, but he has been driving in runs when he finds the ball.

Rays in midst of playoff hunt (2WC) and stadium is pretty empty, guy in upper deck could fart and fans behind the plate would hear it.
My buddy is a Rays fan. He mentioned that the low fan turn out for home games was an issue even when the Rays were contending a few years ago. Something he mentioned about the location with regards to other 'highlights' like bars and restaurants. It's just bad real estate is his estimate.

Well there you go you get rid of whatever player you hate
It is the best method of dumping entire salary without getting anything in return. I would say someone would have to be pretty desperate to pick up Choo's remaining tab. Pence? Eh what's the reason for doing that as we would not get anything in return and he was not that expensive. Odor? He leads the team in RBI right now, but again who would be desperate enough to pick up his remaining tab and the two ponies?

Timely hitting for odor. He doesn’t get hits very often, but when he does, guys are usually on base. Good for him I guess.

The rangers should be very skeptical of odor at this point. No matter what he does the rest of this season, he shouldn’t have any guarantees going into spring training next year except for a roster spot. He should have to beat other people out and earn his playing time.

I’m aware that he had a good spring last year and I really don’t take much stock out of spring training performances, but the onus should be on him to be noticeably better than the other guys out there at his position.

The reason I say this is because the first thing you should be able to expect out of a regular, or a guy who plays 150 games a year, is CONSISTENCY. His 2017 top to bottom was atrocious, his 2018 was bad except for the last 2 months, his 2019 up to this point isn’t good. He has feasted on bad pitching mainly from the mariners and the royals, when we play someone good he disappears. If you took out his average against those 2 teams, he would be around .165 or .170.

Long story short, the rangers SHOULD be very wary of a guy who has been expected to play 150+ games a year at a high level, but he usually only plays well in 60 of those 162 games. The other 100 games he plays like the worst player in all of MLB.

As I stated I was providing some data which was trying to find diamonds in a pile of manure. :)

If Minor isn't good enough to trade, then he certainly isn't good enough to extend or to depend on.

He's had an awful July, which cannot have helped his value at all......Now you can give me all his numbers - which you are so good at - to prove my pont.....ha ha ha

But I think the Rangers standing pat isn't NEAR the disaster some of you do......So be it.....We'll see.

If Minor rights himself, and gets back to resembling the pitcher he was in the first half, Lynn continues on and the Rangers sign a stud pitcher (Cole for example) that's a pretty solid (not great) 1-3 IMO.....I'll call it competitive.

I think Daniels really meant "Are we going to do it if it cost anything?" No. We are not going to spend anything toward that end

Wow.....thanks for clearing that up for us. :noidea:

Didn't have an issue with holding onto Minor or Lynn, I did have an issue with not trading Pence...

A voice of sanity in a sea of turmoil......

That is great that we will have Minor for 2020 when we don't have nary a chance to win the division or be successful in a playoff push. We will have another year with him while our window is still nailed shut. That is very helpful. lol

From mlbtraderumors.com

Hayes reports that the Twins were considering both Robbie Ray and Mike Minor, though concerns about Ray’s durability and Minor’s July struggles diminished the interest.

He got everyday at bats when he was hitting below .200. He gets them because of his contract. That is why I am not in favor of extending Minor, or most anyone else presently, with maybe the exception of Gallo.

He is also hitting only .165 against every team other than the Royals and Seattle. He has 38 RBI in 72 games versus everyone else as well. He has 24 against the Royals and Mariners
