Agreed, it was a little of both. Nobody got crazy hot to shoot -6 or -7 to come from behind. #12 got Mullinari, Finau, and Koepka, his closest competitors at the time. But it was Tiger who birdied 3 of his last 6 holes to grab the lead and hold on. There was so much firepower on that leaderboard. Arguably the two best players in the world coming up 1 stroke short with late charges. The stars aligned for Tiger, but he got it done and did it in his own way. He hit 80% of the greens in 4 days, 10% higher than anyone else. If he gets hot putting again, he’ll get his next major. But he won’t hit that many greens in reg at Pebble or Bethpage with penal rough.

Over here it was gusty winds, really gusting so I assume that it was windy there so that alone would change the course, but coupled with Sunday pressure at a major, none of the contenders really lit it up....Cantlay got back in it with a hot round.

Yeah…Tiger needed a little help from Molinari, so it was a little bit of both. Tiger said he saw Koepka go in the water while they were on 11 green and thought he would’ve hit 9i. For Finau to follow Molinari in Ray’s Creek it’s something about that hole position…3 contenders all came up short. The 15th was unforced on Molinari…bad layup but a clean lie for the approach…ugh!

As for the next major…I’m not sure this will open up another major run, but Tiger has won at Beth Page Black. The top players are all different now. For the most part, they are all longer than Tiger off the tee these days. The PGA won’t set it up like the USGA so it might not be as penal, especially around the greens.

I give him a decent shot there if his putter/short game his in peak form.

Pebble…USO, obviously he’s won it set up for a major before. I give him a decent chance there as well if he can play it smart and hit FWs.

We shall see.

Thank yourself and the other Baldy knob gobblers. Your sycophantic idolizing of him sickens us.

Oh that's rt - according to you nobody is or should be allowed to root for Tiger Woods or any other golfer that you don't like. If they do then they are hanging off his nut suck or don't know the game of golf or whatever other lame excuse you can spout. You are a complete joke & everyone here knows it. Bitch away pal. I laugh at all of your replies since they are so stupid & you sound like one of the most bitter clowns on the planet.

Also good to see that you were watching the Giants game instead of coverage of Masters. Wow - what are there like 150 games left for those non-contenders? Sounds like pretty thrilling stuff - yaaawwwwnn.

He's only the GOAT in your mind. The facts prove otherwise.

That could be true, but you have to admit that he is at least among the elite of all time golfers. Nobody wins 80 PGA events & 15 majors by being mediocre or simply "lucky" all of the time. My question to some folks here is exactly why do you hate Tiger so much?

At this time he is not the spoiled little brat & acts in a very friendly manner (unlike in the past - hey people change as they get older & perhaps learn from their mistakes). He is also playing well & not getting hurt. I just don't get all of the outright hate for him from some (definitely in the minority) & would love to know why he pisses off some folks at this time.

I assumed this thread would turn into what it has...lol

Congrats Tiger Woods...won his 15th Major when many including myself thought that ship had sailed! I am on record saying if he did win another major it would Augusta, and he would have to be in the final group and his playing competitors might struggle a little.

The perfect storm developed for Tiger...the weather storm that was predicted did come through. That forced them to go off both 1 and 10 tee in 3somes getting TW in the final group. Lo and behold, the seemingly unflappable Molinari finally flapped with an over par round of 74.

The people I was watching this with were having a debate over whether Tiger took this Masters or Molinari chocked it away...many a Masters has been lost in Amen Corner....the shortest hole on the course and that right pin places in particular. He started getting loose with the driver in general missing both left and right so he had some nerves he was battling, but calmly making the par putts. Making double at 12 hurt badly, but he was still in the tournament until 15.

I say Tiger took the tournament by sticking it tight on 16...that birdie shut the door on Molinari and it was up to Tiger and a few guys ahead but it was Tiger's Masters to lose at that point.

He won it with experience. Molinari was one of 4 in the last 6 that put it in the water at 12. He should have just plaid it safe as possible. But that's a tough hole. You can try to play it safe and still easily walk away with a 4. The final round was great. The course was really punishing bad shots. Tiger was playing as well as anybody else and just knows the course better than anybody. The guy that impressed me most was Schauffele. He'd hit big shot, screw up, come back with a bigger shot, screw up again, ... I thought he was out of it 3 times but he just kept coming back.

What, cheating on his wife with hot blonde women?

I hate to break it to you, but he's hardly the first star athlete to fuck around on his wife. Magic Johnson is still pretty beloved and he claims that while he never came close to Wilt Chamerlain, because he cheated on his wife with over 2,000 women. I personally know one professional athlete and without spreading any rumors via privaleged information, I can tell you theres a bunch of guys who haven't been publicized or demonized but are just as bad.

So, in your world, that makes it OK? I could go on and talk about the initial reasons as to why I dislike the guy as a person - his on course behaviour that was routinely covered up because he is Tiger Woods, but it's pretty clear from your response that your line in the sand is clearly different than mine.

I wouldn't say he is only hated by a minority of folks but he also has his fans. I'd say it's about 50/50.

I never questioned his golf ability but rather his sour personality and the dismissive way he reacted to folks. He only smiles when he wins.

Best at the time. Have you ever tried going out there with new gear? I tried bringing out a steel shaft, wood head driver for "grins" one time. Not many grins the 3 times I tried to swing it.

I have a set of steel-shaft persimmon woods. I don't take them to the course, but I like to hit them at the range.

When I hit it squarely, I can hit a range ball about 220-230 with the #1, if I'm not slicing. With the 3, 4, and 5, I can hit anywhere from about 200-160, but mostly I'm shanking/moon-shotting them. That 5-wood head is tiny. But it's a very satisfying feeling when you hit one square, because you know it before your head comes up.

There's a lot of guys behaving badly on the PGA tour. The sports brutal as far as travel/away from home time and the divorce rate for players seems like it's 80% or something. I remember reading an article about Lee Trevino where one of his older sons from his first wife basically said they spent 90% of the year waiting for him to actually be home and when he did get home while he was playing badly they were counting the days for him to leave again because he was impossible to be around. The only thing that might be comparable is Tennis which is brutal as well but the thing with that sport is when most people hit 30-32 they're washed up and can basically move on with their lives.

So....what's your line of demarcation? What if Tiger Woods slapped his ex? Punched her? Worse?

Again...this was a secondary thing because it's behind the scenes until it becomes tabloid nonsense. Woods' actions on the course have been boorish to downright disrespectful. A petulant child. When someone as accomplished as Sergio Garcia does it, the media are quick to rip him for it. Woods does it, and he received protection for a good decade +.

We know why. I can at least seperate Tiger Woods the incredible golfer and Tiger Woods the incredible jackass.

I really don't have a line. I honestly don't root for or against anybody. I just like watching the best golfers in the world put on a show. The one guy I maybe root for is Jim Furyk because he's my age, doesn't play particularly long, and still is able to compete against the best in the world through ridiculously accurate play and great course management. But it's all about the golf.

If you're going to try to attach what goes off the course/field/court/ice/... as far as who should or shouldn't be rooted for then you're going to be disappointed.

Not true. As I've said, I can seperate the talent from the person himself. I'm not the least bit disappointed that Woods won yesterday. In fact, given some of the things he's gone through physically, that alone is an inspirational story. That doesn't exhonerate his behaviour however, and that speaks to the type of person he is....or at least was.

Of the current guys, I support Martin Kaymer. While he hasn't been up to form in a long time, he remains the guy for me because I do know he's widely considered one of the most respected persons on the tour. It doesn't hurt that when he's on, it's HOF level.

Well if you look at his behavior, he did pay the price in a huge divorce settlement and the fact that his reputation is basically going to be stained for the rest of his life.

I could care less about the person, Tiger. I don't watch him and enjoy the greatness bc I like him as a person. I watch him bc he is exciting, he could hit any shot on the golf course in his prime. He is emotional, this I actually like most guys are stiffs out there, it spices it up. But it seems like in this thread it isn't the hate for him as a person, it's actually ribbing what he did on the course. Which is completely insane, he is top 2 all-time and that is just a fact. His dominance over the sport is arguably the greatest stretch and pretty easily, imo it is. I would be interested what he did for the ratings of golf in his dominant stretch, I am sure they sky rocketed and for good reason.

Congrats you hate him as a person, as most people have said this isn't the first athlete to cheat on his wife and a lot of athletes have done way worse. I am not sticking up for him bc what he did was sick, it's just how it is. The money and fame caught up to him.

And his on-course behaviour? That was basically covered up by the media - basically condoing it? He should pay a prices AFAIC.

Nah...the TW haters are probably more in the 30% range, but very vocal on online forums and social media. Admittedly he gave them plenty of ammo to hate him over, but some have moved on past Tiger and some haven't.

I don't see the big deal either way...just because you're good at what you do doesn't make you a likeable personality to everyone.
