You really don't think that 90% of the league would have given up 3rd & 5th Rd picks for AB? I know that's not what you're implying, but thats essentially what I was trying to say. No doubt the incoming phone calls died. AB's antics, his rebuke, combined with Colbert's hard-balling were combining to destroy his value. In hindsight I'm betting that those 90% teams are kicking themselves for not keeping their hats in the ring.

Thanks, Face.

Need to check the schedule and see if Oakland plays Pitt next season.

I thought you called them unrelated?
Am I wrong?
I’ve said lot in this thread, but show me sir.

I’ve said they are different and they are different. You said that Brown was pissed...I assume by the dealing with Bell? Obviously he was pissed, but I don’t think that’s the reason. Hearing the tidbits I’ve heard from some pretty good sources...Brown’s beef was really about team and his QB not showing him the respect he felt his play earned.

Here is your problem — he has a 21 million dollar cap hit still, so trading him now provided Pitt with no relief to go improve the defense.

And a 3rd and 5th round pick isn’t going to change anything in that regard, right now.

I always looked at Pitt as a well oiled machine with a great front office. But the way Bell and Brown have been handled, it makes them look terrible.

Basically they had one of the best RB’s and one of the best WR’s and in losing both, a 3rd round pick is all they got. That’s terrible.

Don't they get a compensation pick when Bell walks?

It only takes 1 team to hit the panic button after the draft, or during the draft for that matter. They could & should have gotten a much better return. Hopefully washing their hands clean of this nonsense now vs later will benefit the locker room, but I will have a hard time being optimistic about this.

I was trying to give up as little as possible but thought we'd give up a 2nd at minimum. And a 3rd or 4th.

So as others have noted, if you look at this from the perspective of the Raiders' management of the salary cap, it is tragically bad. You could have spent money locking down Mack and you had a pretty good 24 year old WR. Instead you trade them away and trade for a receiver who you pay huge money to, even though he will be 31 before he plays a single game for you. Granted, they got three first rounders, so the fate of these deals ultimately depends on how they capitalize on those picks, but their cap is blown up by an aging player and they have no young nucleus to speak of.

Mack was gonna get a monster deal.....after we gave one to Carr.....and Cooper was up for a new deal......and he had the dropsies in Oakland after a good rookie season.

We got a top 5-10 player in the League in Brown, I wish we could have kept Mack but the money was the holdup and he got it with the Bears.

Ultimately, this was a good trade and most analysts think we fleeced the Steelers......and we did.

I applaud Bell for sitting out. The Steelers didn’t want to pay him the guaranteed money, so they were trying to tag him in one year deals, while giving him an ABSURD amount of touches.
No reason to put your body thru an extra year of 400+ touches with a team who wouldn’t give you a contract.

To me — the Steelers HAD to know Brown was unhappy and they weren’t going to pay Bell. Instead of selling high on both and getting a king’s Ransom — they tried stringing them along until they had no leverage at all and basically got nothing in return.

Again, all CBA with Bell, both sides played it to the max.

Yes, they could’ve loaded his offer with fake semi guaranteed money like the Rams did...if they were going to pay a RB silly money, in hindsight maybe they should’ve given him $25 mil in roster bonuses.

Brown being pissed was about Brown...not Bell.

Listen, PIT lost with Brown and Brown. I’m not disputing that. I never felt they should’ve tagged Bell I would’ve traded him the minute I realized I wasn’t going to get a long term deal done.

I don't think so because Bell didn't play for them last year, he's not a normal FA that left the team.

Giving a 30-year, former 7th round pick another $30M guaranteed is kind of stupid IMO. I also find it ironic Khalil Mack's personality was apparently "too big" for Gruden's liking, but AB is now coming in...!?

Don't forget that Dak Prescott did with Amari Cooper, in a half season, what Derek Carr couldn't do over his NFL tenure.

Actually, Coop had a good rookie season with Carr and then developed the dropsies.....he needed a change of location and it worked out well for both teams.

The one issue I see here is that the Raiders gave up on Khalil Mack who is one of the 10 best non-QBs to build around in the entire NFL. The Raiders are the only team in a worse spot defensively than the Chiefs and their goal is to try and outgun us on offense? That seems weird to me.

We'll be using those 1st round picks to address the defense. And probably other draft picks as well....

Tate, traded for a 3rd.
Cooper, traded for a 1st.
Antonio Brown, traded for a 3rd and 5th.

Umm....what?! I know he ruined his value by his social media bullshit, same with Le'Veon, but I mean come on! Good riddance but I still wish we would've gotten SOMETHING out of this.

Just put it in perspective. We have what once was the best WR/RB duo in the league for 3-4 years straight. Bell and Brown. In 2019, all the Steelers will have to show for it will be 2 3rd round picks and a 5th. Ugh....

AB sabotaged his trade value.....we all know AB is a lot better than Cooper.

Depends on what they bring FA wise themselves....they don’t have a ton of cash now thanks to this trade, but they we’re going to be heavy spenders in FA regardless.

Word I’m getting is they do...IF they don’t bring in equal value to what they lost.

Obviously that will get firmed up one way or the other in the few days because I expect Bell to sign on day one of FA.

I think now you guys will be relegated to drafting smart to try and improve weak spots.

I can see why a Steeler fan would look at it like that. As someone with zero allegiance to Pitt or Bell (I actually cant stand Bell as he played for MSU) — it seems like a simple solution would have been to trade Bell.

What Pitt wanted to do was, tag him, give him the ball 400+ touches (more than any RB in the league) and then tag him again, while not guaranteeing any money in the future. Bell knew Pitt was going to overuse him again and he sat out the year. Now Bell will be gone because another team will pay him and Pitt gets nothing.

yes and give him HUGE guaranteed money

It makes no sense. They got greedy and wanted to squeeze every last carry out of Bell, without guaranteeing anything in the future. Trade him if you aren’t going to pay him. He was one of, if not, the top RB in the league and he was what, 24 or 25.

He was partially a product of the line, and hes was obligated by his contract, just like anyone else, if he didnt wanna sign then dont sign, but thats on him, the offer for big guaranteed money was there,

On top of that — it makes Pitt look horrible to the other players in the league. When you have 2 of the best players in the league, not wanting to play for Pitt — it can’t shine a very good light on the franchise.

Have you followed AB at all, 31 teams wouldnt touch him because hes a lunatic, come on man
