It's a new age in college football. QBs especially. They will commit and if they don't get the starting gig they will hit the transfer portal the next season with some excuse like I walked by a frat house and they yelled mean things at me.
Dudes have been transferring for years now. This is nothing new. As I mentioned earlier, this is also hardly the first time the NCAA has granted a waiver request, many others much weaker than Fields' case.

Saying others had a weaker case isn't saying much when it's obvious it was because he couldn't beat out Fromm and he found one stupid thing to claim he had to go. I don't blame him for wanting to leave and I don't think he should have been prevented to go but the excuse he used is laughable and so are most going to be now.
And yes dudes have been transferring for years now but it was never to this extent.

Bullshit

It's just noteworthy because of how highly rated he was coming out of hs, along with being 1 year out.

It's easy to say that as a dude on a laptop, but it's hard to saw how being called the "n" word is going to affect him. The whole thing about his sister make no sense, they're two separate people. I'm sure the depth chart was the driving factor here, but I think offensive fit makes a difference too. He'll maximize his potential with OSU moreso than in a strictly pro style offense at UGA. Given how lenient the NCAA has been in recent years with handing out waivers, it would've been a really bad look for them to deny his.

Fields left because of the depth chart.

He was granted a waiver because the NCAA didn't want to deal with the outrage and being called racist.

NCAA transfer rules are outdated and need to be revamped. There is no reason to allow coaches to be free agents and make the students indentured servants.

His waiver isn't even close to being the most lax in recent years. It's just a big deal because he's an elite prospect going to an elite program.

I agree the transfer rules need to be revamped, and the coaching thing is a big part of it, but stop calling players indentured servants. It's such an absurd, ignorant comparison.

It is neither absurd nor ignorant but alas, I do not have the time to educate you but here is a tip . . . I know those "word of the day" things are cool but when you try to use the words, it usually ends but something like this.

It's both ignorant and absurd, and that's putting it mildly. If you educate yourself on what indentured servants actually went through, maybe you'd understand.

As someone else brought up in this thread two players left OSU and were granted immediate eligibility and they left solely because of the depth chart numbers.

The only reason people care about this is because it's a high profile player. I agree the racism stuff is a little flimsy but it's enough to make the NCAA decision pretty easy in light of allowing lesser players to transfer so seamlessly.

:yo:

It's an absurd process honestly. College football simply isn't what it used to be when the current transfer rules were adopted. It's big business with a ton of moving parts. Kids shouldn't be handcuffed to a program when coaches (many times, the biggest reason kids commit to a program) are free to come and go as they please.

This is some funny stuff. That motormouth Stephen A. Smith said Dwayne Haskins (who ran for 108 yards last season) is more of a runner than a passer.

This is more proof he just likes the sound of his own voice.

The irony is I'm betting the only reason he said that is because Haskins is black.

I stopped trying to figure him out years ago. He's a hit air machine. And when he's on the tube he gives me a headache. Good thing there's a mute button.

I used to listen to him on the radio but his loud ranting schtick is just annoying to me now. He has a lot of inside info on the NBA and that's what he's good for. But he's certainly no analyst obviously.

I'm guessing he's going for the contrarian opinion with Kyler so if he blows up he can tell everyone he told them so.

His southern preacher delivery has made him unappealing for years now. He's so self-righteous with his opinions. And he's one of the only recognizable faces left at ESPN, which says a lot about how bad things have gotten there.

Are you serious? The coaches aren’t paying a buyout, the schools hiring them away are paying the buyouts.

Many of these top programs make so much money off these kids that paying 1 million, 5 million, 10 million or whatever is nothing to them to get a coach they want.

It is a joke. Then the coaches will spend years recruiting and building relationships with kids and leave the week after they sign a commitment to the school. Happens every year.

Or as the president of the Saban fan club, I’m sure you know how he left MSU. He tells the team he isn’t going anywhere. He is staying at MSU. Then leaves in the middle of the night without addressing the team. Coaches can come and go as they please. When you are paying coaches 3, 4, 5, 10 million a year — a million dollar buyout is like 100 bux.

The top programs aren't many any money off these kids, and if you don't understand that you're a dumbass - not that it's a surprise.

It doesn't matter how those contracts are completed, the point is they are. When you show me coaches who are just leaving contracts for other opportunities without them doing whatever is needed to complete the contract. If schools want to start putting it in their contracts that the coach must sit out for a year if they leave, they can do that. I have signed many NDA's and NCA's.

Furthermore, it doesn't even fucking matter what the coaches do, it's THEIR CONTRACT. Other peoples contracts have never and will never entitle you or anyone else to a damn thing. If they think they are getting screwed, then they can sit at home making all that money you ignorantly seem to think they are worth, and they can use that money to pay for their own coaching, their own education, their own PR and everything else they get that ignorant fucks like you seem to think comes for free.

Saban btw can leave Alabama at anytime he wants. He has absolutely no buyout.

I don't see how anyone could have a weaker case than Field's since his case is 100% bullshit.

Ohio State running back Antonio Williams transferring to North Carolina

Williams rushed for 318 yards and three touchdowns in two seasons at Ohio State, but struggled to get any real playing time behind Mike Weber in 2016, and Weber and J.K. Dobbins in 2017. In his Twitter post announcing his transfer, Williams said "the timing for me to be at Ohio State wasn't the most ideal."

UNC transfer Williams cleared to play immediately
Williams announced his transfer in April, citing family in returning to his home state and opportunity. He was a four-star instate recruit who committed to UNC before signing with the Buckeyes.

He played one game with six carries as a freshman, then 12 more games as a reserve last year. He had 57 carries for 290 yards and three touchdowns in 2017 to go along with five catches for 25 yards.

The NCAA has recently implemented transfer reforms, including loosening restrictions that could allow transfers to play immediately if in good academic standing and without objection from their previous school.
